Prince William Wedding - *Major Date Error* on NZ Packs - rapidly withdrawn: What a new issue to have an error on! The Media event of 2011, with the April 29th Wedding of Prince William of Wales, and Kate Middleton expected to have TWO BILLION VIEWERS globally.

William will almost certainly be the next Monarch as Charles/Camilla are not a popular option. NZ issued a Deluxe pack with set, mini sheet and FDC for $20 - and some goose used the WRONG birth-date - May and not June. Instant panic and NZPO immediately withdrew any on sale at Post Shops.

Only a very few were sold before they were withdrawn. It was re-issued April 1 showing correct June birthday!

A ton of folks globally with major Royal Events sign up for "everything issued". If that means buying two NZ folders, they want both, cost irrelevant. My hunch is these folks alone will more than vacuum up near all packs out there for sale.

Add to that the number that collect NZ in some depth, and there is a clear supply/demand collision about to occur. (Check prices on the Aust 1970 PO packs for Japanese buyers - $1,000s each!)

William is a real superstar in NZ. The ERROR packs will get even pricier when the normal packs have gone.

I can mail packs TODAY for anyone that wants the packet nearly cancelled on Wedding Day .... nice little keepsake to file along with them!

In fact I will use these blocks 4 below for franking in next few days, for those who want to pay $8 for Registered Mail domestically, or normal post overseas, as you can see they have the WEDDING DAY CANCEL of April 29 - right in the centre.

These are very special blocks and were not sold at post offices ... the PO stock was in sheets of 45c and sheets of $2.45 .. NOT se-tenant as you see here.
Also the next 3 orders will get these for franking or part franking. (My PO only had 3 left!) I suspect almost none of these exist with today's Wedding date on them.

Is there any identifing markings to tell which is a error pack and which is the second normal issue, without having to open them up ?

Mark, it is only the wording that differs between the two kinds of packs. Glen has the error [MAY] birthdate error packs for sale so go ahead and buy with confidence!

But it was a very good question, as members may imagine the packs are sealed down, and hence impossible to picl apart.

The 1970 Australia "Japanese" language PO packs were all sealed up, and are near impossible to verify unless you cut open the pack (reducing value a LOT - despite the value of some being $1000s.

The NZ Wedding packs as David can verify, thankfully come in a heavy thickness, vinyl type outer, but luckily that was not SEALED in any way. Not even with a piece of tape.

I just took a photo of one below .. the flap shown just tucks down into the packs, and the contents are easily inspected to spot the wrong birth-date month.

That was NOT the issue date of the mini sheet, (weeks earlier) and only a few would exist thus. A $25 item on its own to a keen Royal collector.
