"A whale of a tale by first-time author Rick Chesler involving modern-day pirates, media moguls, and a sexy federal agent -- all chasing a cetacean-mounted camcorder and the crucial piece of evidence needed to resolve a murder."
-- Steve Alten, NY Times bestselling author of GRIM REAPER and MEG
"WIRED KINGDOM is a fast-paced thriller that is one third deep-sea adventure, one third FBI sleuthing and one third awesome. A superb debut novel and killer concept."

From the Author
Wired Kingdom is my debut novel. I hope you have as much fun reading it as I had writing it. It was largely inspired by my love of the ocean and the natural world in general, as well as my long-time habit of reading all kinds of suspense, action-adventure and thriller novels. I look forward to hearing from you after you give my book a try. Thanks a lot for stopping by.
Happy reading,
Rick Chesler
P.S. It is available in both mass market paperback and Kindle e-book formats.

- Reviewed in the United States on June 8, 2013Author Rick Chesler can really tell an unforgettable story! It's a drama from the first page to the last page, keeping you enthralled! In this story, Trevor Lane is monitoring a satellite live feed of a webcam attached to a nearly 100-foot blue whale's dorsal fin. The website where all fans can access is called "Wired Kingdom." As he watches the two screens which have been displaying nothing unusual, he suddenly hears sounds other than the blowing whale. He hears clearly a woman's voice screaming, followed by two gunshots. A murder has just taken place displayed live on the website around the world. Now to Hector Gonzales who lives on the Mexican coast. He runs a charter aircraft, a small Cessna seaplane for tourists. His 11-year old daughter, Rosa, is near death, her body rejecting the donor tissue. It will cost more than he and his wife, Carla, can come up with. But suddenly, he has a job which will more than pay for Rosa's life-saving surgery. The job? To remove a technical device attached to a whale not far off shore, in U.S. waters. Enter the third character, the most important, FBI Special Agent Tara Shores. She's tough, well-trained, a great crime solver. But she doesn't like being reassigned to investigate this obvious murder. Why? She's afraid of water, much less sharks and whales. This story is so well developed, so exciting that it nearly leaves one breathless. The characters are so very well defined, they are unforgettable. The quality of the writing is superb, the pace unbelievably fast, as fast as a shark can attack, at times. The plot development is excellent with twists and turns. The ending is so powerful and haunting. Don't miss out on the action which will literally take you to the sea to feel the salty breeze.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 30, 2010From the very first page of "Wired Kingdom" the reader knows something's up. There's excitement, energy and a whole lot of the unknown wound up tight as a spring on this first page. And that's just on page one. Rick Chesler has set up a powerful tale in this novel and although many characters venture in and out of its pages, the riveting story never loses its focus. There are some strong viable people in this book but it has only one main character.
Chesler is at his best when the action turns to the water, or rather "under" the water. Clearly the star of this novel is the Blue! Painted accurately and dramatically the whale has a personage all its own and one can almost feel the massive weight as it moves through the depths. Scenes and descriptions when the Blue is on the page are beautifully crafted and gripping. The author puts you in the depths and you can almost hear the sounds emitting from the creature, feel the velvety wet skin as the 100-ton Blue swims near. Chesler knows how to make your skin crawl.
This novel has one of the most exciting endings this reviewer has read in a very long time. If you want action, it couldn't get any better. "Wired Kingdom" is truly genuinely exciting reading. A welcome thriller in a literary world where few books surprise. This one does.

- Reviewed in the United States on July 10, 2010I have to say, this is a fantastic book! There is no way you will be disappointed. Rick Chesler has the makings of a heavyweight writer that you will definitely hear about in the future. You will be pleased knowing you discovered him before all of your friends. And believe me; I think he is going to be big!
To the book: Wired Kingdom lives up to the hype, delivering interesting characters, well developed plotlines and an ending that surprises. I judge how good a book is by how deep into its world I'm pulled. Well, Wired Kingdom had me mesmerized. Only a few authors can get me to suffer a day with the ravages of a previous night with little sleep. I experienced several such days' because of this book. Well done Mr. Chesler! I sincerely think this is one of the best first books from an author I have read. The premise is without a doubt the single most original I have encountered. And it is all believable. Similar to Criton, the science is sound, and even the fantastic moments are plausible.
I look forward to the next book. This is a definite buy!
- Reviewed in the United States on June 26, 2010I read the first two chapters of Rick Chesler's Wired Kingdom in a pre-release sneak preview and knew I had to read the entire book. I ordered it immediately and actually received it four days prior to its release date. In spite of a heavy workload, I read this book in one week.
Although there are several characters in the story, Mr. Chesler does such a good job of defining each one that I never once had to check back to an earlier page, wondering, "Who is this, again?" Each character has their own 'story' but each story is perfectly entwined to the entire book.
The main character of the story is actually a Blue Whale, to which an attached web cam allows internet and television viewers access to the seas. Even if the reader does not have a marine background, Chesler gives such perfect definition of the massive mammal and its environs, it is easy to imagine oneself in the water watching the story unfold.
In a world in which murder has become all too commonplace, Wired Kingdom brings a new angle to solving the crime, a murder at sea caught by the web cam. The research done by the author was obviously extensive as every bit of technology is described so well, the reader has no problem understanding just how it works. The story's end, while surprising, makes perfect sense retrospectively. Given the characters, I can't imagine it any other way!
Personally, I look forward to more novels by Rick Chesler. His first is so enthralling, I have already purchased several more to give as gifts. This book was the perfect way to start my summer reading!

4.0 out of 5 stars Good crime thriller
I'd never heard of Mr. Chesler until some random stranger started "following" me on Twitter. I have no idea how he heard of me, I suppose that he reads the blogs of other independently published authors, one of them mentioned my book review. I often talk about how much I love reading some of the cheap self-published sci-fi that the Kindle Revolution has sparked, and so I guess that explains things. Anyway, I wondered who this random stranger was, followed a few links, read a description, and moments later, I had a book to read.
And a jolly interesting book it was too. Now, let's get the bad bit out of the way first. The technology is a joke. To take just two examples: first, small portable satellite communications systems require a lot more power than would be available in the system described and have nothing like the required bandwidth; and second, water is opaque to GPS.
But, despite some people saying that it's sci-fi, it ain't, and so I won't criticise the author for his bad science and engineering. It's really a crime thriller. It has all the right ingredients - a seemingly unsolvable crime, then shocking evidence that emerges, a race between the bad guys and the good to get hold of it, action, hidden motives, and of course some great deception so that both the good guys and the reader go down utterly the wrong route in trying to figure out whodunnit. I'd give it five stars out of five, but for one thing.
The rabid animal-rights terrorist just doesn't fit quite right into the plot. Some of his actions are significant, it's true, but I think he could be fairly easily swapped out for a more believable character. His attempts to harpoon a whale - to be the first sail-powered whaler in decades, as he points out - as a mere publicity stunt to draw attention to the plight of whales is not in the slightest bit believable. Sure, we all know that animal rights extremists are mad, but they ain't that mad. In reality they know that they can get away with murdering people to draw attention to their cause, but the moment that they start strangling bunnies with their bare hands they know they'll lose both any future converts and their current members.
So I deduct one star, and recommend this book.

3.0 out of 5 stars Ok
It was a pleasant read. Not particularly gripping but ok value at the daily deal price. Not really one to enthuse about.
