Zombie in the Basement is the heartwarming tale of Alfie, an adorable young zombie who lives with Andrew and his family. Their special houseguest struggles to learn how to cope with being different than everyone else while Andrew and his family help to teach Alfie how to manage the situations that arise from his condition. We’re all different, and that’s a good thing. Our children should be taught to proudly march to the beat of their own drum, and to embrace the individuality that exists in the world around them. It’s up to us to give them enough love and support to find their own way without leading them by the hand and doing it for them.In this first book of the Zombie in the Basement series, Alfie, Andrew and their friends try to get the zombie’s foot back from the neighbor’s dog Scooter. The job is made more difficult when the neighbor, who doesn’t like Alfie because he’s different, refuses to help. Will the boys ever get Alfie’s foot back?

Editorial Reviews

Review

"Parker takes a very deep and troubling concept and turns it into simple story that helps the younger crowd learn that we can easily hurt peoples' feelings through our words!" ~ David, from Zombie Certified

"Funny and Informative. Makes you think how we treat people that are different from us.
Would recommend this little book to all my friends." ~ Amazon reviewer

From the Author

I didn't set out to write a book about bullying or special needs, it just sort of happened.I was given the idea of a zombie who lived in a family's basement by Turner Purvis and as I sketched out the storyline, it became obvious to me that the zombie could be synonymous for any child with special needs or someone dealing with bullying from others. Aflie is similar because he's confused about his place in the world and doesn't understand why some people treat him the way that they do. I hope this book can help our children learn to cope and to lean on their family and friends for support.

I enjoyed this, and found it very touching. Fun, hold a child in your lap, and read it together. The message is beautiful, it teaches children to care about others, be accepting of people that are different, and stick up for those who are being treated badly because they are different.

This story was great, my three year old daughter loved it and the message was very clear to her. We have to accept others even if theyre different and when someone doesn't then we should not pay attention to the mean things they say and we will be happy. Big thank you from me and my kids for the entertaining story and the great idea behind it.
