Aleutian Islands Waterway Safety Committee Informational Meeting in Unalaska, April 26 from 2-5 pm at the Grand Aleutian.
One of the key recommendations of the Aleutian Islands Risk Assessment was to bring together stakeholders in a proactive forum to determine ways to reduce risk, prevent accidents, and foster collaboration among a diverse set of waterway users in a non-regulatory body. The U.S. Coast Guard has been encouraging the use of waterway safety committees to promote this type of collaboration.

This workshop, in association with the Western Alaska Interdisciplinary Science Conference, will familiarize residents and stakeholder with a waterway safety committee that is being proposed for the Aleutians as a follow up to the Aleutian Islands Risk Assessment. Organizers including the U.S. Coast Guard, Nuka Research, NOAA, Aleutian Pribilof Islands Association, the Aleutian and Bering Sea Islands LCC and Alaska Sea Grant will also be seeking participant insights on the form and function of the proposed committee.

Remote participation by phone and webinar is possible and we will send follow up information to those interested in that option. If you have any questions please contact Aaron Poe with the Aleutian and Bering Sea Islands LCC at: aaron_poe@fws.gov or 907-786-3834.
