A Time In Paradise Kindle Edition
Jade Gonzalez has always been fascinated with Hawaii and its beautiful beaches, jungle waterfalls, volcanoes, and elaborate flower lei. Even the islands’ eclectic cultural mix seems perfect to a girl of Mexican-Asian heritage.
A winter vacation to the islands to visit her mother’s old college friend Leilani gets really interesting when Jade meets Leilani’s cute son, Kai. Together, the two explore the legend of the Hidden Falls, a magical waterfall with the power to grant one’s heart’s desire. During the hike, Kai is injured and, on her way to get help, Jade takes a bad fall, only to wake up in 1957. The waterfall, it seems, really is magic.
In the past, Jade meets handsome Pono Kaluhiwa, who immediately falls for the girl from the future. Trouble is, Jade already has feelings for Kai and wants to get back to her own time. Besides, she knows what the future holds for Pono—staying with him could change his destiny and hers. Even so, Jade’s tempted to stay. Pono’s hard to deny.
Jade has a decision to make. Does she (and can she) go back to her own time, or should she stay with Pono, changing the future forever? Either way, someone’s heart is going to break. The question is, will it be Pono’s, Kai’s, or Jade’s?

Review
"I loved this book. Wish I had read it when I was a young girl. The heroine, Jade, is lovely - humble, beautiful, although she doesn't know it, and strong. She is an excellent role model as she navigates the temptations and pitfalls of being a teenager." ~ Valerie Clay, author of The 7th Tarot Card
About the Author
Garcia wrote A Time in Paradise to share her love of the islands' beauty, culture, and aloha spirit. Like Jade, the author's son and daughter are of Asian-Hispanic heritage, and part of the unique merging of cultures the islanders jokingly refer to as "mixed plate."
While browsing the young adult section of her local library, Garcia realized how few books were set in Hawaii or had mixed-heritage protagonists. Jade's story grew out of this realization.

- Reviewed in the United States on May 3, 2014I loved this book. Wish I had read it when I was a young girl. The heroine, Jade, is lovely – humble, beautiful, although she doesn't know it, and strong. She is an excellent role model as she navigates the temptations and pitfalls of being a teenager. Along her journey she has many choices to make and she usually makes them out of a generous spirit, in spite of the challenges put in her path. The vibrant descriptions of the lush foliage, customs, and delicious food made me want to go back to Hawaii again!
- Reviewed in the United States on February 18, 2014I'm not really a fan of time travel novels (with the exception of Diana Gabaldon's Outlander series), but I really enjoyed this book. As one of those few people who has been to Hawai'i and didn't enjoy the experience as much as I'd hoped, this book made me want to try it again. I enjoyed the explanations of history and tradition, and really liked the characters. I'd mention what I liked best, and what I would have liked to have had happen, but that would spoil the story for those who haven't read it, so I won't.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 31, 2014So loved this book! Perfect for the age group with the explanations of things local here in Hawaii for them to have a better understanding as they read. And I LOVE the story, the travel back in time to the Hawaii of old that we all grew up in and miss
so much made me cry. Add to that the real blossoming of love and I'm hooked. Can't wait for her next creative idea! BRAVO!
Author! Author! With deep Aloha

- Reviewed in the United States on November 29, 2015Hawai’i is a special place. I know; I’ve lived here since the mid-80s. I know the culture, I know the history and know the people. To find a novel for young adults novel that isn’t cynical or filled with clichés is a rare treat. In reading “A Time in Paradise” you get a sense of modern and a little of the past. And without revealing too much takes you on a personal adventure that is relatable and wondrous. What would you do if you found yourself in Hawai’i? Not the Hawai’i in the brochure, but a Hawai’i that only the locals know. And what would happen if you found yourself in another time in Hawai’i, a time in the past? As the reader you are introduced to the local language, not Hawaiian per se, but are introduced to pidgin (or Hawaiian Creo-English – now officially recognized as a language). You are introduced to the island favorite foods and places that the locals enjoy.
Not many people understand Hawai’i’s culture, and many only see the surface that is presented by the tourist industry. But like many places you don’t get to the culture without living here a while and without living here a while you won’t learn of the deep and rich history of Hawai’i. T. Garcia’s novel captures that feel and sense of wonder that is structured around a romantic narrative. There is conflict, stirred feelings by young loves and a little bit of science fiction without getting too wrapped up in technical vernacular.
I appreciated this story, neither for the romance nor the narrative, but for the mere fact that is captures a little of Hawai’i’s nuanced lifestyles. As the reader I FEEL as though I visited Hawai’i through fresh eyes of somebody that is discovering Hawai’i for the first time. As such, I’ve fallen love with Hawai’i all over again and bless the day that I moved here so long ago.
Thank you T. Garcia for taking me back to why I love Hawai’i again and I look forward toward your next adventure with Jade.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 1, 2014First and foremost I think I need to make one thing perfectly clear, my reading skeleton is made of sci-fi, thrillers, comedy and even autobiographies but romantic fiction is one genre that people would not associate with me and I certainly do not normally list it on my top 10 of obvious reading material.
But saying that a good friend recommended `A Time In Paradise' to me as they knew my eclectic tastes and they thought I would enjoy it. Despite my initial resistance and scepticism I thought I'd give it a try.
And I must admit that I am glad that I listened to my friend as I did genuinely enjoy the story. It is a time travelling love story. I will not give too much of the plot away as it wouldn't be fair to spoil it. I will just say that it is set in 2013 and 1957 Hawaii and even Elvis has a small walk on part!
For the quality of the story T A Garcia's love and passion for Hawaii, where she lives, pours through on every page and paints a richly coloured canvass of the islands so that I was left with the sights, colours, smells and tastes of the place. Although the story is probably aimed more at the slightly older teenage/young adult market (which is certainly NOT me) I was drawn into the story and could empathise with the main characters and their emotional attachments and the central character's, Jade, quandary.
So if you are looking for an enjoyable introduction into the genre or are just looking for a light but enjoyable read then I would strongly recommend T A Garcia's `A Time in Paradise'. Hawaii is well worth a visit, whether in real life or via this book.
It would seem that I do have a romantic bone after all.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 12, 2014I truly enjoyed this book. It was clearly and descriptively written placing me right there on that island. I could actually feel the island breeze and smell the tropical flowers right there from my living room couch. The chapters are fairly short, but each holds that little excitement to make you feel you want to read "just one more chapter". It is a perfect book for teens and young adults; holding that forever excitement of temptation and love torn, but written in a more refreshing style; different from dark, wizard/vampire stories familiar to young readers of today. Five stars for me.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 16, 2014I really loved this book. Not only did I learn more about Hawaii, but also fell in love with each and every character and felt as though I was actually there experiencing every pure, raw emotion that they went through.
I am looking forward to reading more books from this amazing author!
