This story just blows me away. The she tells it is so powerful that I felt like I was there watching over this precious child. I was never even spanked as a child, neither were my kids and neither are their kids so it’s just too unreal for me. I would have to put it down sometimes and try to absorb the horror. Love the way this story was told. Excellent writing. God Bless You…you are the most incredible person I have ever….I was going to say known. I guess it just feels like that.

If you read "Educated," and/or "The Glass Castle," and were moved by the ability of a woman to rise above despair solely by grit and determination, then please add this memoir to your reading list. Her journey through periods of starvation that led to dumpster diving for discarded food, and a childhood of horrible emotional abuse and physical violence is both heart wrenching and inspirational. Where one might become jaded, bitter and mistrustful, readers follow along in this memoir and celebrate as the author makes hard choices that lead to a life of joy, acceptance, and abundance. Caveat: I was a witness to a portion of the events in this book. Reading details of the years prior to my entry into the author's life were beyond difficult. Knowing that she triumphed over a childhood of pain brings me the utmost happiness.

Acabo de terminar de leer Wildflower de Dr. Teresa Van Woy. Su historia es digna de ser contada y Teresa lo ha hecho en un libro impresionantemente bien escrito. La narración nos va llevando de la mano a través de la sorpresa e incredulidad a ser testigos de injusticias y crueldades, pero también de la determinación de Teresa y de su actitud mental encauzadas por un espíritu de superación inquebrantable, que no la dejó caer nunca en el victimismo.LilianaPetrichUn libro fascinante / A fascinating book

Me parecen particularmente interesantes las distintas relaciones de los participantes de la historia, donde no se trata de sentimientos binarios de amor u odio sino de dinámicas conjuntas y contrapuestas donde las emociones de los protagonistas se ven manipuladas por las situaciones extremas que les tocan vivir, y donde el rencor es atenuado por la indulgente pena, el instinto de protección por la hermana que sufre es reemplazado por la indiferencia del temor, donde los sentimientos de lealtad hacia el propio verdugo se interponen en la propia liberación. Dr Teresa Van Woy ha sabido retratar esta compleja interacción en un libro fascinante.
I have just finished reading Wildflower by Dr. Teresa Van Woy. Her story is worth telling and Teresa has done so in an impressively well written book. The narrative takes us by the hand through surprise and disbelief as we witness injustice and cruelty, but also Teresa's determination and mental attitude channelled by an unwavering spirit of self-improvement, which never let her fall into victimhood.
I find particularly interesting the different relationships of the participants in the story, where it is not about binary feelings of love or hate but about joint and opposing dynamics where the emotions of the protagonists are manipulated by the extreme situations they have to live through, where bitterness is tempered by indulgent compassion, the instinct of protection for the suffering sister is replaced by the indifference of fear, where feelings of loyalty towards one's own tormentor stand in the way of one's own liberation. Dr Teresa Van Woy has managed to portray this complex interplay in a fascinating book.
