The Northeast Information Center (NEIC) is excited to announce the availability of six internship positions (4 off-campus and 2 on-campus) for Fall 2025 (August-December). NEIC, a key regional repository for archaeological site data, plays an essential role in preserving and managing information related to cultural resources across the state's northeastern region. Our team works closely with both state and federal agencies, as well as academic researchers, to ensure that archaeological data is properly cataloged and made accessible for public and professional use.

We encourage both undergraduate and graduate students to apply for this unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the field of archaeology and cultural resource management. This is a non-paid internship, requiring students to complete a total of 135 hours within a 17-week period (~9 hours/week). These hours can be transferred for 3-credit internship hours for Fall 2025.

Interns will assist with processing incoming archaeological site forms and reports, helping to update and track sites and surveys within our current GIS platform. This internship offers valuable exposure to data management, GIS systems, and the intricacies of cultural resource preservation.

If you are looking to gain professional experience and contribute to important archaeological efforts, we highly encourage you to apply!

PASSAGES CAREGIVER RESOURCE CENTER

Passages Caregiver Resource Center provides support to family caregivers in order to ease the physical and emotional challenges of caregiving.

https://www.passagescenter.org/caregivers/

Who is a Caregiver?

The term caregiver refers to anyone who provides physical, emotional, financial, or logistical support to a loved one with a disabling condition. While many people in this situation do not identify with the term "caregiver," it is important for them to know about the resources available to support them as they care for their loved one. Some examples of caregivers include: a person caring for a spouse who has suffered a stroke; someone caring for a relative who has Parkinson's disease; a grandchild providing assistance to a grandfather with Alzheimer's disease; or a parent caring for a son with a traumatic brain injury.

If you help with any of the following tasks: Preparing meals, bathing and getting dressed, grocery shopping, cleaning the house, managing medications, arranging for services, paying household bills, getting in and out of bed, getting to doctor visits, then…YOU ARE A CAREGIVER!

The most valuable support a family caregiver can receive is from a peer — someone who has been through what they are going through and can truly understand what it is like to care for a loved one. Family caregiver support groups meet once a month and are facilitated by trained staff. Caregivers learn strategies and skills to solve problems; maintain their own personal, physical and emotional health; and to provide the best care they can for those who are dependent upon them. Support Groups provide a supportive atmosphere to share experiences and ideas as a way to ease the stress of caregiving.

For the summer months of June, July, and August, we will meet on the third Thursday of each month from 12PM-1PM via Zoom. During the academic year, we will resume to meet in person on the 3rd Fridays of the month from 12PM-1PM in SSC 150.

Please contact Amelia Watkins for further information about the program at awatkins5@csuchico.edu or 530-898-6706.

Outlook doesn't allow BCC Zoom calendar invites. To respect everyone's privacy, I ask that if you're interested in attending the virtual support group meetings, please let me know, and I will send out the Zoom invite ASAP.

At Chico State, we believe in a harm reduction approach to substance use. Every life is valuable and deserves access to support without judgment. If you or someone you know uses substances, knowing how to recognize and respond to an overdose can save a life.

Recognizing an Overdose:
Overdoses can happen to anyone. Whether intentional or accidental, opioids—including fentanyl—can slow breathing to dangerous levels. Here's what to look for:

  • Slow, irregular, or no breathing
  • Unresponsiveness (won't wake up or react to touch)
  • Bluish, gray, or pale skin, lips, or fingertips
  • Pinpoint pupils
  • Gurgling or choking sounds

How Narcan (Naloxone) Helps:

Narcan is a safe, easy-to-use nasal spray that can reverse opioid overdoses and restore breathing within minutes. It won't harm someone if opioids aren't present, so if you suspect an overdose, it's always better to use it.

Free Narcan Available on Campus:

  • WellCat Prevention, ESTM 150P (next to The Hub)
  • The WellCat Health Center, 601 Warner St.
  • The Well, BMU 003B

Remember the signs of an opioid overdose, pick up free Narcan on campus, and be prepared with the tools to save a life!
