Mae-Belle Rogers is an independent, quirky young woman running a used auto parts shop in a small Ohio town. Her life takes a surprising turn when she is asked to be a stand-in for her nephew on a trip to meet the star player of the new basketball team that has come to town. The trip, which was supposed to be quick, turns into an evening of discomfort and unease as she endures a tour of Elsu Benjamin’s mansion. But her quick visit affects Elsu in a way that even he has a hard time comprehending. Over the next week, Mae slowly realizes that they have developed feelings for each other. When she finds herself flung into a world of celebrity she never knew existed, she learns that Elsu is more than just a crush; he's also a protector and a friend.

Editorial Reviews

Review

"This installment introduces some memorable characters readers will want to follow; however, they’ll be exasperated by Mae’s constant fluctuation between determination and self-loathing, her repeated need to be reassured, and the story’s cliff-hanger ending."  —Publishers Weekly

Center Courtship is an amazing book! When you read this book you get sucked in and feel as if you are apart of the story! The characters are so believable and you easily fall in love with them...well some of them! Others feel you with such hatred! This book just makes you feel for the main characters! To be honest, I was a little afraid to read this book. You see, I am friends with the author and bought her books as a way to support her. I knew it was a romance and was afraid it would be a "bodice-ripping" type of romance, and I would have to act as if I liked it. What a great surprise to find out I LOVED the book - not a bodice ripping scene in it. From page 1, I loved the atypical heroine, and soon fell in love with the hero, as well. I bought both of the books in this series before I left on vacation; my plan being to read one on the plane ride down, and one on the plane ride back. It about killed me to wait 10 days to read the second one! Great characters, great love story. Bravo, Liza Brown!

This novel is easy to read, well written, with a believable storyline, realistic dialogue and characters who are described so well it caused me to like the likable ones and dislike the nasty ones as intended. There is a lot of action and intrigue in a short period of time to keep it exciting and interesting which made me want to keep reading. The romance is lovely and tastefully written, Elsu is a sincere Prince Charming who every woman would dream of dating. The author definitely knows and appreciates the sport of basketball, and cars. I enjoyed the Mid-West feel highlighting my hometown of Massillon, having even seen the author eating at Meldrum's Restaurant before. I can’t wait to get the sequel!

not to let the hurts and pains that someone else inflicts on you determine your future and steal your joy; this is the message of Center Courtship. It also lets you know that there is always someone who sees your value and worth; someone who is willing to be with you and go through the fire with you. Mae felt she was damaged goods and this affected her in many ways, but Elsu saw a beautiful flower that needed to be nurtured. He wanted Mae to shine like the bright light that he knew she was.

Enjoyed reading this sweet sportsball romance from a debut author. No explicit sex, but given the lead's backstory, it would have seemed a little out-of-character and inappropriate, so Brown most definitely understands her people. Characterization was a strength throughout. Ending is a little unsatisfying, but I would love to read a sequel, which I think is in the works. I'd pick up another of these for sure.

Liza Brown’s Center Courtship was a delightful novel. Her protagonists Mae and Elsu were warm and positive characters, and the bad guys dislikeable from the start. The plot has just enough twists and turns to keep the story moving. For me, other than Elsu and Mae, I probably liked the wives of the other basketball players best, though they appeared in only a few chapters. Not simply a romance, Center Courtship also featured some dysfunctional family elements, and lots of characters with their fingers in the pot either bringing the protagonists together or pushing them apart, sometimes with a tremendous amount of force!

Center Courtship was a fun read and I look forward to the sequel.

Such a wonderful, fantastic read. The story moves along very nicely. The pain of Mae's past wraps around her future. And what a future. Elsu is the man a woman such as Mae deserves. The sweet new love story wrapped around the fear of her past, and the past coming back to haunt you but having that one person there that has the means to make it better and wants to love you despite all of it makes it wonderful. I could not put it down once I started reading, even burned dinner slightly. I am looking forward to what comes next for Mae and Elsu. I could say patiently but write faster, Liza.

I really enjoyed this book and look forward to the next! This book had just enough description that you could envision the surroundings and people. I get board if it goes into too much detail. This did not. I also enjoyed the dialog. You could relate to how the characters spoke to each other. I felt like I knew them really well. I'm not a big fiction reader but the characters were so real and believable that it could be an autobiography of Mae!

The story kept me interested. I liked the local references. I don't care for mystery or crime stories, so some of the crime elements were too much. I liked how likeable the two main characters were. There was no resolution to the story and too many outrageous things... fire, the team moving into Mae's apartment, destruction of the truck, etc. The story was well written and easy to read. Now, I have to read the sequel!
