Tracie Skarbo was motivated to write by her father, who was her biggest supporter. “He was always behind me, rallying me on with my writing. I would always see him with a book in hand. He gave me a great appreciation for the written word, and the power and responsibility that writers have to shape those who read their words. He also taught me to respect nature and to value the beauty within it; my reflections on my environment are just an extension of this.” Skarbo was raised on Vancouver Island and is working on her next two books.

- Reviewed in the United States on February 21, 2013This series has always been a favorite of mine. No matter what the subject matter is, the Chicken Soup books always take a nice relaxing, entertaining, and often humorous approach in keeping even deeply emotional matters light. While all the time inspiring one to new heights and achievements in various subjects. Chicken Soup books take their subjects very seriously, but just have a way of relaxing the reader and allowing them the feeling of truly being helped. This latest book in my collection is no different in being very well written, and, keeping it real and simple in its retelling of inspirational tales of success for a number of people in very different fields. It's quickly become one of my true favorites among the entire series. Chicken Soup books never come off as preachy to me, or feel like I am in a doctors office paying some outrageous fee for advice. They always go over with me as a long, detailed, and very deeply absorbed talk with a very wise old friend, or even a session with a number of them from all walks and times in my life. In short, they fit me and leave me truly feeling better about myself, and my chances or circumstances, whatever they may be. I honestly think anyone reading this book will feel better about themselves as well, and where they are going, even if they feel they have already arrived and done the best they can. A real winner. Try it, and enjoy the happiness..: )

- Reviewed in the United States on February 14, 2012Another Chicken Soup HIT! It is for me! Normally I read a few stories each night before going to bed. But this book required a daytime reading! Ha! I read it straight through because I couldn't put it down. Each story was better than the one before. Just what I expect from Chicken Soup!
I didn't expect to have a story published in this book, but it happened. It also happened that the story is about my friend Judy (A Friend in Need). The book came out within a few days of her birthday so I was glad to take her a copy.
We both laughed and cried and shared our years of friendship reading that story.
As always I am honored and humbled to be included in the Chicken Soup Family of Authors.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 15, 2014I always say that you can't go wrong with Chicken Soup. I don't think I will ever give one of these books less than four stars. This is another one that is so filled with wisdom and inspiration that I was looking forward each day to reading more stories. Many people had to climb the ladder of success in order to achieve happiness. They had to get more education and training. Others had to downsize. They already had degrees and high-powered careers, but they weren't happy. Sometimes that six-letter word, stress, was slowly killing them. One became a full-time stay-at-home mom and found that PB and jelly with her kids beat luncheons with executives. One went from management to administrative work as an executive secretary and was so much happier. Many people came to realize that managing with less money wasn't a hardship if they had less stress and more peace in their lives.
Others had handicaps or illnesses that they needed to accept. One blind woman made such a beautiful life for herself that a cure for her blindness wasn't the end-all and be-all of her existence anymore. As usual, I was truly moved and astounded by so many of these stories. Others were pleasant stories, but they didn't have the power to really move me to a great degree. This is a matter of personal taste I'm sure. But I had to take a star off because of the stories that didn't have the punch that I've learned to expect--the stories that move me to tears or really amaze me with their wisdom and beauty.
It's a wonderful book for the bedside--sure to relax you and give you hope. By the way, I know that some people can be turned off by stories about people who leave perfectly good jobs to find a more peaceful existence. People can't always leave their jobs, but I seem to remember that there were some good ideas here for making the most of leisure time or achieving some balance in life. One story is even about the joy of having a box of chocolates all to yourself--loved that one!
- Reviewed in the United States on October 30, 2011In these tough economic times we sometimes need to be reminded to count our blessings and this wonderful book succeeds in achieving that goal. I especially enjoyed Section 6, The Joy of Giving. As a New Yorker I really related to Maureen C. Bruschi's story, "New York City's Greatest Underground Secret". Her honesty in the narrative and appreciation for the value of every individual made me reflect on my preconceived notions about people I really do not know. I have highly recommeded this thought provoking book to my colleagues, friends, and family and will be giving it out to many of them as a gift this holiday season. Keep up the good work!

- Reviewed in the United States on May 3, 2013Read this book the first time in our local library, fell in love with it...The real life stories are short, crisp and very inspirational with a message...It makes you realize life is simple if you want it to be and Happiness is around the corner
A must read...A true stress buster....will put the smile back on your face
- Reviewed in the United States on April 12, 2013I really like this book. I didn't think I would because at first I thought it was "preachy." However, when I got into and started reading the book, I realized these peoples' stories I could relate to. Just as much as they were going through a hard time, they were throught positive thinking and doing as well as spirituality, they were able to get out of a negative situation. I highly recommend this to anyone who feels like giving up on their dreams or life in general.

3.0 out of 5 stars Gut, aber nicht so gut wie das erste Buch von von Chicken Soup
This book is OK, although I did not like it as much as their first book. It was more expensive , some stories are really good, some not as well written/very repetitive. Inspiring, yet not the best one I have read so far. Would not buy it again. Don't even feel like re-reading some of the stories either. Not the best investment!
