Purchase options and add-ons
Lifelong friends – both adoptees – decided they would take a chance and search for their birth parents using online DNA kits and social media. It turns out, that was the easy part. What happened over the next five years was much more difficult – trying to forge relationships with a multitude of related strangers while navigating decades of invisible and unexpected emotional land mines. This is what they found.
Whether you're connected with adoption or not, "Found" is a unique and timely story that sends readers on a roller coaster of emotions regarding being adopted, building relationships, family, friendship, pluses and pitfalls of online DNA searching and social media, parenthood, what makes a family, and much more. Written in an easy, friend-to-friend style, "Found" is an honest, insightful look into the authors' adoption and search experiences. The book also includes several additional short stories of others that searched for lost family after hearing of the authors searches, and their own insight into their own experiences with reunion.

- Reviewed in the United States on August 4, 2023This is a wonderful book, easy reading and a fascinating story of two lifelong friends searching for their biological families. As a friend of one of the authors I heard some of the details as they were unfolding. But as I was reading this book I learned so much more about her search and that of her friend. It was emotionally compelling for me to follow along with their stories. I can't even imagine how they felt as they learned the details of their past. I felt the anticipation and hope of each search and reunion. Some things were easy for them and some were quite a challenge. I liked how they alternated the chapters and joined their stories together at the end. And I really liked the stories of the other adoptees at the end. Each situation is different and often challenging. I would highly recommend this book to anyone looking for a good read.

- Reviewed in the United States on September 23, 2023This real life accounting of two friends finding their birth families after being adopted as babies had me captivated from the very first page. Sherri and Trish have two very different perspectives on adoptees finding their biological parents. The fears, hopes, desire for a blood connection, searching for shared history, it’s absolutely riveting. The only time I put it down was when I needed to clear the tears from my eyes. It’s was an emotional roller coaster, with quite a few twists.
There are so many parts of being an adoptee that I’ve never thought about, and I really enjoyed reading two different perspectives of that journey. The authors are so relatable and conversational with the audience. It’s well written and a quick read. You won’t regret picking it up, and good luck putting it down!
- Reviewed in the United States on June 21, 2023Ordered this book on a whim. Started reading and couldn’t put it down. I read it in two days. Yes, its a story about adoption – but also about friendship, what family means, building relationships, parenthood, DNA search tools, and the amazing (sometimes scary) things you can find searching online. I’m going back through for a second read.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 6, 2023As an adoptee who reunited with her "first families" 4 years ago, I find it interesting to read stories of other adoptees who have taken the emotional journey to find the information about ourselves most people take for granted. This book written by two women both adopted who have been friends their whole lives takes readers on the real roller coaster of emotions that searching for, finding, reaching out to and ultimately meeting your birth families involves. Anyone who has experienced reunion knows the reality is nothing like what viewers see on those reunion shows. Nothing can fully prepare anyone for this process, but an adoptee thinking about searching for their birth families would be better prepared after reading this book. The writers tell their stories honestly and since each has both positive and negative reunion experiences, not many possible outcomes are left out. The stories from other adoptees added at the end and the many discussions about the questions and feelings adoptees share are an added bonus to this fantastic book.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 20, 2024A wealth of information for those searching for biological roots. A guideline for not only adoptees but for all who uncover DNA surprises. It was serendipity that I've known Trish for years and while we are loosely connected friends, I had no idea we were travelling this DNA road. "Found" has been so beneficial by putting those feelings into words that mirror my own. So validating. Many thanks to both authors for sharing and helping all of us relate and be able to put words to our journey.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 17, 2023As an adoptive parent with a very open adoption I try to read many different adoption stories to be informed and do what I feel is best for our son. I found this book well written and informative. Some revelations from the children of adoption and the parents who put children up for adoption were unexpected and insightful. Empathy is an essential component in the world of adoption and I seek better understanding. Thanks to all who shared their experience.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 30, 2023Wow! This book is an amazing journey of two great friends searching for their birth families. I couldn’t put it down! Heart wrenching and enlightening stories as adopted childhood friends searched for their own birth families. One of them, through DNA results, turned out to be my cousin! Highly recommend reading their individual journey and sharing with us.
