They thought it was about time to have a kid. No big deal. Until it was. Then their lives went from fooling around to hormone shots, test tubes, embarrassing doctor visits, and more. But there’s no sad, mopey story here. Tom LaMarr handles the journey to fatherhood like he handles the rest of life – with enough humor to make even the most stoic wanna-be-dad laugh with recognition. Follow this funny father on his quest to become the one thing that eluded him: becoming the someone she calls “Daddy.”

About the Author

The median age for becoming a parent has climbed, and author Tom LaMarr is the reason. The "Geezer Dad" author was nearly 48 when he met his daughter, which makes him even older now. He is also the author of two acclaimed novels. "October Revolution," hailed by three separate publications as "a remarkable first novel," prompted "Catch-22" author Joseph Heller to write, "Got back home and read your novel with much ease, excitement, and pleasure. I found it 'a lighthearted, dandy satire with a humorous plot and a variety of deft pops at many deserving targets.' And you can quote me." "Hallelujah City" also received favorable reviews, including this from Publishers Weekly: "LaMarr has created a hectic, full-bodied account of a troubled young lady enmeshed in a bizarre religious cult... The plot is stocked with enough tension to hook readers until the chaotic, fiery climax." The Boulder Camera noted, "'Hallelujah City, ' like LaMarr's debut novel, is a fast and funny read. Humor isn't easy to pull off, but LaMarr does it effortlessly... Yet 'Hallelujah City' is a melancholy novel, a meditation on mistakes that can never really be unmade. That tension, between laughter and tears, makes it deeper and more complex than many a New York Times bestseller." After growing up on a bluff overlooking the Mississippi River in Dubuque, Iowa, Tom lived and worked in Council Bluffs and Des Moines, then Jacksonville, Florida (where he met his wife), and the District of Columbia. He studied at the University of Iowa Fiction Writers Workshop, and has called Colorado home for more than two decades.

Three separate publications hailed Tom LaMarr's print debut, October Revolution, as a "remarkable first novel." Catch-22 author Joseph Heller wrote, "Read your novel with much ease, excitement, and pleasure. I found it 'a lighthearted, dandy satire with a humorous plot and a variety of deft pops at many deserving targets.'"

Publishers Weekly called Hallelujah City "a hectic, full-bodied account of a troubled young lady enmeshed in a bizarre religious cult," adding, "The plot is stocked with enough tension to hook readers until the chaotic, fiery climax." The Boulder Sunday Camera enthused, "Hallelujah City, like October Revolution, is a fast and funny read. Humor isn't easy to pull off, but LaMarr does it effortlessly... Yet Hallelujah City is a melancholy novel, a meditation on mistakes that can never really be unmade. That tension, between laughter and tears, makes it deeper and more complex than many a New York Times bestseller."

Geezer Dad, Tom's funny, heartfelt memoir about getting a late start at parenting, reached #4 on Amazon’s Hot New Books in Parenting and Adoption. Adoptive Families Magazine named it one of the “Best Adoption Books of 2015.” Karin Evans, author of The Lost Daughters of China, called Geezer Dad “An engaging human journey, both heartwarming and hilarious.”

Due Thanksgiving 2017, Zero Gravity is Tom's first YA book as well as the first in a trilogy. Per the jacket copy: In a world where gravity is losing strength and "lightweights" suddenly vanish into the sky, it's survival of the fattest for bulky Adam Weaver and his family. With Zero G seemingly imminent, the Weavers embark on a dangerous journey to reach and board NASA's Ark, a massive space craft and the last hope for Earth's survivors. But is there really a spaceship? Will the Weavers gain passage? And can a kid who once got picked on for being overweight prove that heroes come in all sizes?...

Rodman Philbrick, author of Freak the Mighty, offered, "Zero Gravity is an intriguing tale, expertly told." Ravenhill author Timothy Hillmer, noted, "Zero Gravity is The Hunger Games with twice the humor and heart as well as a mind-bending premise. It’s an adventure fantasy that lifts off with all cylinders blazing and never lets up."

Foreword Reviews weighed in with "Zero Gravity is author Tom LaMarr’s first YA novel, and hopefully not his last. This humorous, vivid novel is fast-paced, smart, and surreal—perfect for floating the hours away."

As an adoptive parent I am always looking for new adoption information, stories or memoirs. This book gives a unique slant on adoption-a humorous older dad`s personal story.Though there are plenty of serious moments,I caught myself laughing out loud at some of the author`s personal jabs at himself and the process that finally connects him and his wife to their daughter.I found the book to be a fast easy read.I would recommend it to anyone who may be considering adoption, has adopted,is an older parent(especially older dads)or anyone in the mood for a different and VERY funny story.

Tom LaMarr shares humor, humility and honesty in a book that could not have been easy to write, but I am so glad he did. His belief that "a sense of humor is essential in surviving infertility" allows him to share this journey that is sometimes painful, but always inspiring.

It was actually pretty good! The author did a great job of keeping a potentially extremely boring story interesting. He has a great sense of humor, which showed in a few spots of the book. Some spots, of course, weren't very interesting, but at the end, I did want to know more about his daughter.
Note: I received this book for free through Goodreads GIveaways.

This is a must-read for wanna-be (or already are) parents of any age who are struggling with creating a family. I laughed and cried. Sometimes I laughed until I cried. Tom LaMarr is a terrific writer who makes even the most uncomfortable parts of the “we’re trying” process relatable - whether you’ve actually tried it or not.

This book is humorous and touching and full of insights into a problem faced by many, though the appeal is to all readers. It's about hope and love winning out when the odds are tough.

This is a really good book. It takes a tough situation and adds humor to it. If you can find the humor in life you can get through a lot of things.
