The Tufts OpenCourseWare (OCW) project is a web-based publication of educational material from Tufts University courses from all three campuses, with a strong representation of medicine, veterinary medicine, dentistry, and nutrition courses. Under the Creative Commons license, the website provides open sharing of free, searchable course content to educators, students, and self-learners throughout the world.

MIT Open Courseware

MIT OpenCourseWare (OCW) is a web-based publication of virtually all MIT course content. OCW is open and available to the world and is a permanent MIT activity. MIT OpenCourseWare is a free publication of MIT course materials that reflects almost all the undergraduate and graduate subjects taught at MIT.

OER Africa Health Resources

OER Africa is an innovative initiative established by the South African Institute for Distance Education (Saide) to play a leading role in driving the development and use of Open Educational Resources (OER) across all education sectors on the African continent.

University of Western Cape - School of Public Health

University of Western Cape (UWC) has a long history of supporting the use, development and diffusion of free/open source software and educational resources. In 2005 UWC's Senate passed an ambitious Free Content, Free/Open Courseware Policy, which removed institutional obstacles to publication of open educational resources. The Free Courseware project is part of a broader move towards implementation of this strategy.

Open.Michigan is a University of Michigan initiative that enables faculty, students, staff and others to share their educational resources and research with the global learning community. The site contains a number of resources from medicine, nursing, public health and dentistry.

MedEdPORTAL

MedEdPORTAL is a free online peer-reviewed publication service provided by the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) in partnership with the American Dental Education Association (ADEA). MedEdPORTAL was designed to promote educational collaboration by facilitating the open exchange of peer-reviewed teaching resources such as tutorials, virtual patients, simulation cases, lab guides, videos, podcasts, assessment tools, etc. While MedEdPORTAL's primary audiences include health educators and learners around the globe, it is open and available for free to the general public. Users can access quality, peer-reviewed teaching material and assessment tools in both the basic and clinical sciences in medicine and in oral health.

With MedEdPORTAL, users can download or access the majority of the published resources directly from the website. Published authors retain their original copyrights and indicate on the MedEdPORTAL website how others may use the materials. In addition, all third-party copyrighted materials and patient privacy issues are addressed during the submission process so users can download and utilize any and all of the published resources for educational purposes without legal infringements.

Health Education Assets Library (HEAL)

The Health Education Assets Library (HEAL) is a digital repository that allows medical educators to discover, download, and re-use over 22,000 medical education resources. HEAL's mission is to provide free digital resources of the highest quality that meet the needs of today's health sciences educators.

Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ)

The aim of the Directory of Open Access Journals is to increase the visibility and ease of use of open access scientific and scholarly journals thereby promoting their increased usage and impact. The Directory aims to be comprehensive and cover all open access scientific and scholarly journals that use a quality control system to guarantee the content.

BioMed Central

BioMed Central is an STM (Science, Technology and Medicine) publisher which has pioneered the open access publishing model. All original research articles published by BioMed Central are made freely and permanently accessible online immediately upon publication.

The OpenLearn website gives free access to Open University course materials. The LearningSpace is where you'll find hundreds of free study units, each with a discussion forum.

Jorum provides access to free learning and teaching resources, created and contributed by teaching staff from UK Further and Higher Education Institutions.

Carnegie Mellon Open Learning Initiative

Scitable by Nature Education

Scitable is an open online teaching/learning portal combining high quality educational articles authored by editors at NPG with technology-based community features to fuel a global exchange of scientific insights, teaching practices, and study resources. Scitable currently contains articles in the field of genetics, and is intended for college undergraduate faculty and students. Future plans involve extension of Scitable to other fields within the life sciences, as well as to other audiences.

Reusable Learning Objects CETL - RLO-CETL

RLO-CETL is funded by the Higher Education Council for England (HEFCE) to be a Centre for Excellence in the design, development and use of learning objects. The principal aims of the CETL are to:

•Build a powerful, flexible framework for producing and sharing a critical mass of learning objects •Share and evaluate the learning objects both nationally and internationally •Advance the pedagogical and structural design of learning objects - especially through the concept of generative learning objects (GLOs) •Provide an innovative and extensive staff reward programme designed to harness expert knowledge and transform it into engaging shareable content.

U-Now: University of Nottingham Open courseWare

U-Now is the University of Nottingham’s formal open courseware initiative, and a member of OCW OpenCourseWare Consortium. In acting as a window onto the University of Nottingham’s activities, u-Now offers an opportunity for knowledge to be shared widely so as to increase learning opportunities for those who, for whatever reason, are unable to undertake formal qualifications and can contribute to the advancement of pedagogy across the academic community.

Community College Consortium for Open Educational Resources

The Community College Consortium for Open Educational Resources (CCCOER) is a joint effort by the OER Center for California, Foothill-De Anza Community College District, the League for Innovation in the Community College and many other community colleges and university partners to develop and use open educational resources (OER) and especially open textbooks in community college courses.

HSO delivers authoritative, comprehensive, free, and ad-free health sciences knowledge. Search and browse any health sciences topic from over 50,000 courses, references, guidelines, and other learning resources. Materials are selected from accredited educational sources including universities, governments, and professional societies, by HSO staff.

Global Health eLearning (GHeL) centre

Over 50 courses on a range of public health topics vetted by technical experts.Knowledge for Health (K4Health) Project has managed the Global Health eLearning (GHeL) Center. The GHeL Center is a pioneer and leader in the field and provides effective learning opportunities to more than 69,700 learners around the world (as of June 2012). GHeL courses focus on knowledge transfer and information access and prioritize learner access and convenience. Courses are self-paced, asynchronous (i.e., do not occur in real time), and non instructor-facilitated. GHeL fills a special niche in providing public health knowledge to professionals in developing countries--those with the most need and least access.
