Jersey City Heights needs better bus service. NJ Transit has an additional 242 million dollars to improve service for commuters, and we need to make sure that some of this money is used to improve transit in the Heights. We want to upgrade bus mass transit in the Jersey City Heights to keep pace with growing residential development.

We the undersigned, petition NJ Transit, the State Department of Transportation, and our local government for better bus transit in the Heights.

The following topics need to be considered to improve bus service in Jersey City Heights:

1. Improve traffic flow to and from Hoboken at the light rail crossing at Paterson Plank Road.
2. Expand the 86 bus service to and from downtown Jersey City, including weekends.
3. Correct issues that cause the 87 to bunch up and cause delays.
4. Increase rush hour service on the 119 and 123 bus to and from NYC and improve off hour bus service for commuters using the bus late at night.
5. Install more bus shelters at busy bus stops in the Heights.
6. Consider an intracity jitney bus service loop linking JFK Boulevard, Central Avenue, and Palisade Avenue.
7. Contact NY Waterway to put a bus stop at Palisade and the Plank Road to access the Hoboken Ferry from the Heights.
8. Shorten the 87 bus line or add a new line that starts and ends at Journal Square during rush hours.
9. Build the proposed bus depot in Teterboro to accommodate additional buses that are needed to improve service.
10. Improve the NJ Transit bus application and utilize wireless technology that improves bus service.
11. Provide vocational training to be able to hire more drivers with commercial driver’s licenses needed to expand services.
12. Work with local government to identify and correct traffic choke points that delay buses during rush hours.
13.) NJ Transit and local elected officials must meet with community representatives in Jersey City on a quarterly basis to discuss service issues and the effects of any service changes.
