Welcome To My Fundraising Page

Leukemia and lymphoma are terrifying words to anyone, even more so to a child my age. Especially since I knew my grandpa had been diagnosed with CLL, one of the many types of leukemia. Shortly after the holidays my teacher began speaking about an upcoming LLS fundraiser, “pennies for patients” That day I went home and all-out bombarded my family with questions about blood cancer, my grandparents were very helpful in giving me answers. Still wanting more answers, I used the google. WOW, you would have no idea how many results came up. Roughly, every 3 minutes someone in the US is diagnosed with blood cancer, and every 10 minutes someone in the US dies from blood cancer. IT WAS PETRIFYING.

That’s when things felt real, and that’s also when I realized how hard things were for my grandpa each and every day, Even though he doesn’t complain about his pain. That’s when I felt obligated to do something. Since the begining of this year, I have been fundraising for LLS.  

The hardest part in this mission was the stories people shared with me. Someone had just lost his 21 year-old best friend to blood cancer, people also lost their husbands and wives, and I also heard the story of a survivor that volunteered at my school during the fundraiser. And saddest, a lady that had gone to the funeral of her 27 year-old son the day before, it made me sad to know that these people lost their friends and family. It made me realize how ruthless this disease was.  And it made me happy that my grandpa is still here. I also heard numerous stories of survivors, and current fighters. These stories gave me hope for my grandpa.

Through this experience I have learned about blood cancer, other people’s pain and suffering, how with a little effort you can make a difference, and that change conquers cancer. I am over half way to my personal goal of $15,000. I am asking YOU to help me reach my goal.

As of recently, I am an LLS advocate and I will continue to try to make a difference in the world.
