It was the surprise of a lifetime for many people who caught a rare glimpse of the northern lights on Saturday, May 11—and Ree Drummond was one of them!

The Pioneer Woman shared the breathtaking spectacle that showed glowing streaks of purple, pink, and green across the starry Oklahoma sky to her Instagram account. And boy, was it something to see.

While Ree is known for dropping everything to get a shot of a beautiful sunset on the ranch (or even a sunrise during those early working days), the sight of the northern lights is a much less common occurrence. The improbable light show was all due to a powerful solar storm, known as the aurora borealis, which allowed people across the country to witness the dazzling display of colors.

So, it's no surprise that Ree took the opportunity to share the dramatic photos she captured from her home. In the first snap, you can see the dark night sky lit up in magnificent color that almost seems otherworldly!

She continued to show the changing colors in another post that featured a special appearance from her trusty Ranch dogs.

“Thank you, Rusty.🐶💚💙💜✨,” Ree wrote in the caption.

With the help of her loving basset hounds and silly pup, Shelby, it seems like Ree found the perfect location for capturing the magical shot. (Right next to her hot tub, of course!)

All these beautiful ranch photos had us reminiscing about something Ree once said many years back:

“To stand there underneath such an enormous sky full of beauty and wonder and power and hugeness. It makes one feel very, very small. But in a good way.”

It’s so true! ✨

If you didn’t get a chance to see the northern lights, you might have another opportunity to catch them on Sunday, May 19. Keep an eye out and let us know in the comments if you witness the colorful light display!
