Houma Youth Language Internship Program

In 2021, the United Houma Nation in partnership with the Houma Language Project received a grant to support Houma youth language learning and the establishment of a Houma Language Committee from the Administration for Native Americans American Rescue Plan Act Emergency Native Language Funding.

The 18-month grant focuses on the development of paid internships and a language council. The Houma Language Committee is composed of UHN Council Members, UHN staff, HLP volunteers, and tribal community volunteers who are Houma French speakers. Read the Houma Courier article on the project.

Jan 31 - Deadline for interns to accept offers

Feb 7 - Orientation

Feb 14 - Paperwork due for first payment

Feb 21 - Mardi Gras (everyone is off)

May 9 - Final week of work

May 16 - Final presentations
