Shall the Board of Directors of the IKM-Manning Community School District in the Counties of Audubon, Carroll, Crawford, and Shelby, State of Iowa, be authorized to contract indebtedness and issue General Obligation Bonds in an amount not to exceed $18,600,000 to provide funds to construct, furnish, and equip an addition for classrooms/support space, to the Middle/High School building; and to renovate, remodel, repair, improve, furnish and equip existing portions of the Middle/High School building?
A new secure entrance means that visitors will walk directly into a holding area where they are checked in by a school employee and then buzzed into the school.
Administration offices will be moved to what is now the middle school library and current middle school office so all administration is located in a central location within the school building.
School safety is a top priority of the school bond. We want everyone to feel safe and secure at school and by having a holding area where visitors check in before entering the school building will verify that all visitors should gain access to staff and students.
A new elementary wing with 15 new classrooms and 3 support rooms will be added in order for the elementary to be housed in one location.
Having one campus for the district will cut back on many expenses including $80,000 yearly in bussing and operating expenses for the district. It will also cut back on travel time for staff who are shared between both buildings. All renovations and additions will also be ADA compliant to create an inclusive learning environment for all students.
The FCS classroom will have a complete remodel including new ventilation, new kitchens, larger pantry, new floor and commercial grade equipment.
The FCS classroom has not had an updating since the high school was originally built. Creating a modern learning environment with restaurant quality equipment will give students real life skills to take out into the workplace.
The high school special education classrooms will be relocated and housed together where the current administration offices are in the high school end of the building.
Additional special education space is needed in the school as numbers and needs continue to change and grow. Housing these rooms together will allow for collaboration among the special education staff and give students the space they need to be successful.
