Title of Research: Exploring Musical Investment

Purpose of the Research:

We are interested in why people participate in music activities.  We hope to gain a better understanding of why music facilitators create musical opportunities for people and why people choose to perform and participate in music activities.

Moreover, we hope to learn more about the possible motivations and benefits of participating in musical activities.

 

Eligibility

Anyone 17 years of age or older who has experience participating in any kind of musical activity. You may be currently participating in one or more activities or may have participated in the past. 

 

What You Will Be Asked to Do:

You will be asked to complete a questionnaire that includes questions about yourself, your history with music and the types of music activities you participate in (if any), and what you perceive are the motivations and benefits of doing so.  We expect that this questionnaire will take you no more than 30 minutes to complete.

 

 

Discussing Your Participation:

If you have any questions prior to participating, please do not hesitate to ask.  Following your participation, you will also receive a debriefing sheet and be able to ask any other questions.  Please contact Amanda Krause (amanda.krause@curtin.edu.au) if you have any issues accessing the study.

 

Benefits & Risks:

We do not foresee any direct benefits or risks/ discomfort from your participation in this research.  However, your participation in this study will help the researchers learn more about how and why people continue to invest their time in musical activities.

 

Voluntary Participation and Right to Withdraw:

Your participation in the study is completely voluntary and you may choose to stop participating at any time. Your decision not to volunteer will not influence the nature of your relationship with the researcher or Curtin University either now or in the future. 

After reading this information, you will be asked to indicate your consent to participate before starting the questionnaire.  If you do wish to withdraw from the study, you may do so by simply closing your web browser.  Once you have completed the questionnaire, it will not be possible to withdraw your data as no identifying information is collected.
 

Confidentiality:

The data from this study will be kept confidential.  As no identifying information is collected, no individual identities will be used in any reports or publications resulting from the study.  Only research personnel will have access to the data.  The response data will be held for research use for a period of seven years after the project is completed, and then it will be destroyed.

This study has been approved by the Human Research Ethics Committee of Curtin University (Approval Number RDHS-69-15). The Committee is comprised of members of the public, academics, lawyers, doctors and pastoral carers. Its main role is to protect participants.
