SPECIAL EDITION: Art & Photography Auction to benefit Living Pearl Children’s Home, Ukraine.
Global Impact’s first ever Art & Photography auction was held earlier this year to benefit our orphanage in Ukraine. The auction was a great success and not only were we able to raise almost 2 months of the operating expenses for the children’s home, we also saw an amazing “ripple effect” of people who were impacted in positive ways because of the art auction! One of those people is an artist from the Philippines who donated her art to help the children at Living Pearl Children’s Home – Here is her story:

Art - drawing in particular - has always been one thing that makes me feel more alive, motivated, passionate and happy. Growing up, art was also my escape from insecurities, hardship and even financial struggle.I was born and raised in the town of Tulunan in Southern Philippines where opportunities are limited, and most people are not born with a silver-spoon.

“This is my story of beauty from ashes and it was something I will never forget.”

My family couldn’t afford even a simple box of crayons - there were always other needs that were priority. So, I would save up my 3-5 pesos allowance and in my last year of elementary school, I finally had enough to buy a 24-piece box of crayons. It was my childhood dream because as a child my world revolved around drawing. Drawing made me feel better because I didn’t have to prove myself to be seen or acknowledged.

It wasn’t until high school that I first felt that someone believed in me and that I have a talent to share and I should not be ashamed to show it. It was my teacher who helped me believe in myself and encouraged me to join competitions. As I recall my first competition, I remember being amazed by the other participants and saw how wonderful their materials were. At that time, I didn’t even know oil pastel existed!

Jorgen’s donated artwork is pictured here and was one of the highest grossing pieces in our auction. She shared her inspiration for the piece: “No matter how strong the wind blows, no greater thing can destroy a person whose faith is grounded deeply. Its leaves may be blown away during a dead night, its branches may be bent tight, but it will remain strong and will bloom again when sunrise comes.”

In my 3rd year of high school, I competed in regionals representing my school and municipality for the 1st time. On the day of the competition, I went with a broken heart because we couldn’t afford the complete set of quality oil pastels the other participants had. I brought what I had – parts of old, broken oil pastel colors that my uncle had given me before the competition. I stood at the very back and watched the other participants as they looked at me and the measly materials I had. I almost cried but I told myself that I can cry after the competition. I was shocked and amazed when I won the competition and brought the championship trophy back for my school.

"When I was in elementary school, I used to dream of having a simple box of crayons."
As time went on, I tried harder and joined more competitions. I won and gained awards from the school. Back then, joining competitions and drawing for people also helped me financially. I was eager to explore and develop the talent I have so I could earn more income to help with my school expenses.
As I learned more about art - in particular painting, I started to imagine and dream about what it would be like to paint on canvas. It wasn’t until college when I became a part of Global Impact as a recipient of their education scholarship, that I finally had the experience of painting on canvas for the first time in my life! I will always be grateful for the realization of that dream!
I used to think that drawing and art was the only thing I was good at and I hoped that one day, people around me would be proud of me for having such talent. My family as well as my Global Impact family and friends have been my greatest supporters in this journey believing in the gift God has given me.

An oil painting donated to our art auction by Jorgen with a beautiful insight: “She’s not just a pretty face. She is a perfect masterpiece of the battles she won and her beauty flows beyond her flaws. Her unique colors are her strength. She carries grace in every path she has walked on, and life is what she brings. All these are painted on a canvas of her story.”

Recently, Pastor Amy gave me the privilege to auction a few of my paintings for Global Impact’s art auction in the USA. I was honored, overwhelmed and amazed by the results and feedback on my art. It was a breakthrough for me, and it helped build momentum in my life as I’ve begun my journey as an artist. Above all, the experience brought me closer to the Lord than ever before.
“I have confidence in the Lord that the paintings I bring to people’s lives will ignite life, joy, hope, love and faith in them.”
Now, painting has become my favorite form of art and it has brought me into a deeper understanding of God’s faithfulness and goodness in my life. I keep pressing on to be a better artist and it is my desire that others would be inspired by the stories I can tell through paintings. I want to see that the work that I do touches others at the core of their souls and bring God’s revelation to their hearts.

“I paint and I pray.
It is my worship.”
