Bible Translation = Life Transformation Changing lives and communities through God's Word

Wycliffe Vision: That God’s Word is accessible to all people in a language that speaks to their heart.

When the Bible finally becomes available to people in their own language, the Word of the divine God comes alive in human hearts and lives are changed in amazing and miraculous ways. Individuals and entire communities are transformed as God's truth is revealed.

"As God himself transformed our hearts and lives, through the power of his living Word and the love of Jesus Christ, we also want to share his transforming love with those who are still waiting to hear about him.

"We believe that the Bible is God's Word to us -- something that everyone should be able to understand in their own language."

Pat and Todd Langille

So the Word became human and made His home among us. He was full of unfailing love and faithfulness. And we have seen His glory, the glory of the Father’s one and only Son. --John 1:14 (NLT)

Did you know?

... that roughly 4000 of the world's 7000 languages don't have a single verse of scripture translated? More than 1700 of them haven't even had a project started yet!

... that's over 160 million living souls ...

... lives precious to God who are unable to hear His Word ...

... because it hasn't been translated into their heart language yet.

LANguages with no translation project started as of 2016

Started projects

Even more people are waiting for their existing projects to produce scripture. All in all, more than 250 million souls speaking over 3,800 languages have not yet had a chance to hear God clearly through His Word.

Wycliffe Mission: To see a Bible translation project in progress in every language that still needs one by 2025.

The Impact of God's Word

Wycliffe Bible Translators

Who are we?

  • Founded in 1942 by Cameron Townsend.
  • In 1917 he went to Guatemala to sell Spanish language Bibles, only to discover that most of the indigenous peoples couldn't speak Spanish. He set about to translate the New Testament into the first language, Cakchiquel. It took 10 years.
  • Meanwhile, he started a linguistics school to bring others into this vital work.
  • While doing translations, they also did literacy work, provided modern health care supplies, and assisted with other needs specific to each language group.
  • This model continues today. Watch the video below to see the process Wycliffe and its partners use for helping communities reach the point where they are ready for a Bible translation project. The video explains the project path as well.
  • To fulfill Wycliffe's Vision 2025, we must work smarter and faster. Information Technology professionals are critical to getting all the remaining language projects started by 2025.
  • Our faith goal is to begin working as IT professionals at Wycliffe's JAARS Center in Waxhaw, NC mid-summer 2017.
