OEDM SPECIAL INTEREST GROUP

This SIG has come to an end.  The details of the events that were held are set out below:

 Monday 20 October 2014

Northern Design Centre, Gateshead Quays, Tyne and Wear, NE8 3DF

Our next Cleantech Special Interest Group (SIG) will be held at the Northern Design Centre on the evening of October 20th 2014.

Created especially for Cleantech companies engaged in product development in the Northeast of England, the event will focus on how frameworks such as collaborative development and design thinking can make savings, speed up the route-to-market and add commercial value to projects.

With representations from Tharsus Group, Northumbria University, The Design Council and Newcastle Science City, the evening will be an interactive mix of information and networking.

Taking place just before the region’s Venturefest Innovation Conference (21st October), it’s a forum for sharing experiences with industry peers and an opportunity to bridge the gap between proof-of-concept and manufacture.

Just a short walk from the famous Newcastle-Gateshead quayside, the start time is 5.45pm.

• Places are limited – Register to attend: HERE

• Download the full event flyer: HERE

Building on June’s launch event in London, which attracted over 35 organisations, it will cover topics such as:

• Original Equipment Design & Manufacture as a model for ‘value added’ but outsourced route to Manufacture.

• Bringing scale quickly to opportunities.

• Design thinking.

Ending with a 30 minute Q&A followed by networking, the Special Interest Group will appeal to a broad range of companies interested in Cleantech product commercialisation activities.

Previous Launch event on 26 June 2014 in London

The launch event of the OEDM SIG tooks place on Thursday 26 June at 5.30pm, kindly hosted and supported by The Design Council at Angel Building, 407 St John Street, London, EC1V 4AB.

This event introduced OEDM to the London audience and set out the significant opportunities that it provides to manufacturers, designers, cleantech companies and others in the OEM supply chain in all industries.

Tharsus Group is leading the Original Equipment Design & Manufacture or  OEDM SIG. They have set up www.oedm.com to give some assistance to explain the OEDM concept.

In summary, the OEDM model coordinates the whole product design and delivery process, identifying and engaging with the supply chain, providing a totally integrated, in-house manufacturing process where the design team and manufacturing have direct lines of communication and a shared understanding and knowledge.

For cleantech companies which have a product that requires engineering and manufacturing and is of a significant size, OEDM can provide a very cost effective route to market and can avoid a major funding round at a difficult time in its development. OEDM operates at that critical equity gap time and so is of real benefit to cleantech businesses.
