The hours of operations are 5:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Monday thru Friday and some Saturdays available by requests.

Gates County Inter-Regional Transportation System

Gates County Inter-Regional Transportation System, GITS, is the coordinated public transportation program for the County of Gates.  GITS will provide transportation for any county residents to various appointments.  Gates County policy prohibits discrimination based on race, sex, color, creed, national origin, age, religion or disability.  GITS will utilize subscription and demand response trips to service clients.

The primary areas requested are Ahoskie (Hertford County), Elizabeth City (Pasquotank County), Edenton (Chowan County), and Suffolk, Smithfield, Norfolk, Virginia.  These trips are available to the rural general public.                                 

“Anyone Can Ride”       

Three trips to Ahoskie are conducted daily:  at 8:00 a.m., 10:00 a.m. (departure 12 noon), 2:00 p.m., and 3:45 is our final pick-up.  Three trips to Elizabeth City; at 8:00 a.m., 10:00 a.m. (departure 12 noon), 2:00 p.m., and 4:00 is our final pick-up.  Trips to Edenton will be provided Monday, and Wednesday mornings   from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon to various medical centers.  A trip to Tyner Community Care Clinic will be provided on Thursday mornings 9:00-12:00 noon.   Three trips to Suffolk, Va. are conducted daily:  at 6:00 a.m., 10:00 a.m. (departure 12 noon), 2:00 p.m., and 5:00 is our final pick-up. Trips are made daily to Smithfield Virginia at 6:55 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.  In addition, trips for Greenville, NC are made on Tuesday and Thursday mornings 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.  Trips to Norfolk, Virginia are made Monday, Tuesdays   & 2nd and 4th Thursdays from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.; trips to Virginia Beach 1st Thursdays from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.; trips to Hampton VA are made on 3rd Wednesdays from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.  We, also make trips to Duke University Hospital on occasion as needed.

THE GATES COUNTY INTER-REGIONAL TRANSPORTATION SYSTEM (GITS)

 ü  The GITS System operates its programs and services without regard to race, color, and national origin in accordance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act.  Any person who believes she or he has been aggrieved by any unlawful discriminatory practice under Title VI may file a complaint with the Gates County Inter-Regional Transportation System (GITS).

The Gates County Inter-Regional Transportation System, GITS, will hold Regular Advisory Board Meeting on The Second Tuesday of January, March, May, July, September, November of each year at 9:00 a.m. at the GITS office.
