About the author

Hot Mamalah: The Ultimate Guide for Every Woman of the Tribe (Oct. ’12), is my second book. My first, Cool Jew: The Ultimate Guide for Every Member of the Tribe, (Sept. ’08), was a No. 1 Amazon bestseller and National Jewish Book Awards Finalist. As the daughter of an Ashkenazi Holocaust survivor and the descendant of Jews who fled the Spanish Inquisition, my books express my passion for Jewish culture.
As a speaker, humorist and slam poet, I have presented at more than 100 venues throughout North America, Europe and Israel. I tour independently and as part of the Jewish Book Network and the speaker’s bureaus of the Jewish Federations of North America and JNF, the Jewish National Fund.
As a journalist, I have reported for a wide variety of leading media outlets including the New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Jerusalem Post, Forward, Shape, Self, Forbes, Jewish Telegraphic Agency, Associated Press and IBA/Israel’s English TV news. I am a stringer for the New York Times Business desk. I also cover arts and culture, health and travel, and have contributed to five Fodor’s travel guides, including CITYGUIDE San Francisco and two editions of the Healthy Escapes guide to spas, retreats and cruise, and have published hundreds of articles about international destinations around the world. My travel writing has appeared in The New York Times, Baltimore Sun, Jerusalem Post, Shape, Hartford Courant, Jewish Journal of Greater Los Angeles, Forward, Canadian Jewish News, New York Jewish Week, San Francisco Chronicleand many other publications.
I also work as a media coach for clients interested in publishing, marketing and publicity and as a freelance writer and editor for clients looking for assistance with reports, white papers, websites and more. My client roster includes Berkeley Engineering and Research, Ulysses Press, slap company and many others.
I am an honors graduate of UC Berkeley with a bachelors in Middle Eastern Studies (Phi Beta Kappa) and a masters of journalism. I have also completed extensive graduate work at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.
I love what I do!
