Managing Moisture in Non-Mechanized Environments and Disaster Situations Tuesday, July 31, 2018 6:00:00 PM Coordinated Universal Time - 8:30:00 PM Coordinated Universal Time
High relative humidity and moisture contents pose some of the most critical risks to cultural heritage collections and sites, ranging from mold and increased rate of chemical decay, to metal corrosion and physical swelling and deformation. This session is an introduction to understanding moisture in preservation environments, including: • The importance of dew point; • Moisture incursion and building envelopes; • And low-tech and passive solutions and mitigation. Discussion will specifically touch on strategies for slowing mold germination and increasing air circulation during disaster events.
