Turned off a little country road to a place I'd heard about. Met two people
carrying guitars and wearing bolo ties outside the door. Went in and saw a
bunch of old church pews and at the rear of the room was a stage. On the
walls were those big velvet paintings / towels / whatever they are---those
things they sell on the side of the road.
No admission charge, no drinking, just old folks and old music. I was
probably the youngest person there. Sat down and took a trip to heaven and
didn't even have to die!
The acts took about 20-30 minutes each. In the first set people from the
crowd came up and sang some. Not everybody knew the lyrics right, or maybe
I'm the one that didn't know them right. The newest song they sang was
"Rocking Years." Some of the songs they did were several by Merle,
including "Swinging Doors" which I had forgotten existed. One guy did a
medley of Hank Sr. One guy did two harmonica solos (Dang! Why can't I toot a
harp like that?) The band was gonna play an instrumental of Mountain Dew
and it was kicked off by lead guitar. He started playing the old song. It
was a hoot! Another group came up and started off their set with "I
Overlooked An Orchid." Awwwwwww, it was good!
I shall go back. I loved it. Paid a $5 donation, which for me means I
loved it a lot.
On New Years, they're gonna have a covered dish dinner. A covered dish
dinner at a music hall! Awwwwww, it's great!

What worries me is that I was one of the youngest one there at 43 except for
kids--and there were only three or four of those. Like soldiers with
memories of WWII, time tends to forget when the recollectors are gone.
