Overview: The Marathon & District Chamber of Commerce (MDCC) was incorporated in 1963 in Marathon, Ontario. We are a dynamic not-for-profit organization that is managed by a volunteer Board of Directors. We host regular monthly meetings that are open to all of our members (various businesses, organizations, community groups, entrepreneurs, individuals etc.) in order to work through various agenda items, discuss community updates and to foster discussions that are relevant to our vision and mission.
Our Vision: The Marathon and District Chamber of Commerce is the recognized voice of business in the community. We will strive to foster a sustainable local economic environment.
Our Mission Statement: The objectives of the Marathon and District Chamber of Commerce shall be to promote and improve trade and commerce, and the economic, civic, and social welfare of the district. We will encourage sustainable business growth to improve the quality of life for the community by establishing effective representation and achieving targeted initiatives for the benefit of our membership.
We work diligently to reinforce the Shop & Support Local message to our district throughout the year - We have a vested interest in promoting local and we support / refer within our membership whenever possible as we are often one of the first points of contact for new businesses and individuals in our community.
We form strong / collaborative working relationships with community partners and stakeholders to work towards common goals that will benefit our members and community alike and to ensure we have a ‘business friendly’ community which will attract new business, industry, and residents.
We also work cooperatively on common concerns with other local chambers and act on issues in the energy, education, forestry, mining, and transportation sectors, presented through the OCC to the Ontario cabinet and other groups.
Along with various initiatives that we work on throughout the year and regular communications to our members, additionally, we host our signature events:
- Annual Business Awards Gala (to be resumed June this year) - Bonus points awarded to Chamber Member nominees and given first priority for access to sponsorship opportunities
- Annual Give Where You Live: Shop & Support Local Giveaway event in November/December (accompanied by a robust holiday advertising campaign on behalf of our business community in print, radio, web & more). -Chamber members are given top priority for our purchases made for the Giveaway prize
- Biennial Trade Show (on hold) - (Discounts on booth rentals to members)
We are a membership-driven organization that largely relies on membership dues, event revenue and volunteer manpower to sustain our operations. As a member, we thank you for being a part of / supporting an organization that plays a key role in our community.
