Morton's BMW Off-Road Training 

Our off-road training has proven very popular, we're doing it again!

On Saturday, June 25, 2016, we'll head out again to get some off-road training under our belts -- and some dirt under our fenders!

For five years now, Morton's BMW has hosted a day of off-road training for GS (and other dual-sport) riders at the Massey family farm in Spotsylvania. About 50 eager riders join us each time and we're ready to go again!

Join us on Saturday, June 25, for our sixth annual off-road training day. We'll meet at Morton's BMW at 8:30 am, hold a brief riders' meeting and complete the ritual signing of waiver forms, and then head for the farm. We'll have a couple hours of training in the morning, take a break for lunch -- included in your registration fee -- and continue training in the afternoon. In the past, this has meant a variety of exercises in the morning session -- e.g., maneuvering on grass and dirt, riding over obstacles, etc. -- and then riding the trails through the woods in the afternoon.

We divide the participants into smaller grousp based on experience and skill, and tailor the training content to each level of expertise. The goal is to improve the skills you already have and make off-pavement riding more fun and less intimidating.

We provide the location, the instructors, the box lunch, and all the water and fluids you'll need. You provide your GS-style bike (other brands are acceptable, too, but they need to be street-legal dual sports), full riding gear (helmet, jacket, pants, boots, and gloves), and a good attitude. Chances are you'll get dirty, you may get wet (this is a rain or shine event), and we can't promise you won't fall down.

Consider adding some crash protection to your bike if it doesn't already have it. DOT-legal knobby tires are highly recommended; 50-50 tires like the Heidenau Scout K60 are good, but knobbies would be better. Your trainers are all experienced at riding off-pavement, and most are certified MSF instructors, as well. They will take good care of you, no matter what your skill level, and will even help you pick up your bike if necessary. Morton's BMW staff will be on hand to assist and provide you with food and drink as needed. We'll also have a compressor at the farm to pump up your tire pressure, should you want to run lower psi for the course.
