Abstract: The emergence of the COVID-19 pandemic brought biosensors into the spotlight, catalyzing a global surge in research around these previously lesser-known devices. Today, cutting-edge biosensors, leveraging fundamental physical principles like electric fields, magnetic fields, mechanics, and optics, play a pivotal role in addressing real-time global challenges and improving quality of life. Central to their functioning are transducers, which convert biological interactions into comprehensible data. In my upcoming guest lecture, I will delve into the latest advancements in optical biosensors, highlighting interdisciplinary research and development. Topics will encompass surface plasmon resonance principles, microfluidic device design and fabrication, prototyping essentials, surface chemistry, and the creation of user-friendly interfaces using Python.

Spearker Bio: As an electronics engineer, my journey in research and development began in the realm of biology, applying electronics to innovative applications. My initial two-year stint in a neuroscience laboratory involved investigating neuron receptors using electric fields. However, the challenge of comprehensively understanding neuron cell behavior led me to shift my career towards photonics, recognizing the power of light in adding vibrant colors to life. During the period of 2014-2015, I gained expertise in developing optical super-resolution microscopy, culminating in the publication of a notable article in Nature Communications Journal. Subsequently, I pursued a doctorate in the interdisciplinary fields of microelectronics, nanotechnology, and biophotonics. My research journey then transitioned into the realm of biosensors, primarily as a researcher. At present, I am consolidating my extensive research experience, engaging with industry stakeholders, and advancing my research projects towards tangible products that address real-time problems. In my current role as a project manager at Multitel, I collaborate with D-Tek, a biotech company, to collectively bridge the gap between research-developed biosensors and the diagnostic market.
