Sinbad-The New Voyages Volume 4 (Sinbad the New Voyages) Kindle Edition

5.0 out of 5 stars 4 ratings

They are the most daring, courageous, fool hardy crew ever assembled under one flag. Chief among them are Henri Delacrois, the French archer, Ralf Gunarson, the blonde Viking giant, the lovely but deadly female Samurai Tishimi Osara, Omar the cantankerous first mate and Haroun, the eagle-eyed youth who mans the towering crow’s nest of the magnificent Blue Nymph. All pledged to follow their captain, the most famous seagoing adventurer of all time, Sinbad El Ari.

Now they return in four brand new fantasy tales by Joe Bonadonna, Ralph L. Angelo, Jeff Fournier and I.A. Watson. Thrills and danger await on colorful exotic shores as the crew of the Blue Nymph search for the Golden Fleece, battle a Scorpion God and Sinbad alone must defeat an evil djin in a game of chess for the life of a beautiful princess. Here are epic tales worthy of this legendary hero, Sinbad the Sailor!

“Ray Harryhausen would have loved this!”
—Says Charles Saunders, author of the popular Imaro series.

This book was well written and featured many original stories. It was entertaining to read and kept the interest level for this volume at its usual high setting.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sinbad Sails "Fourth" In These Fantastical And Weird Tales

This highly recommended anthology of four stories is the fourth book in Airship 27's Sinbad series. These books have been a big hit with me - when I find out about them, I immediately buy them and they go to the top of my "next to read" list.

The first tale has Sinbad searching for the Golden Fleece. This immediately conjures in some readers' minds the 1960s "Jason And The Argonauts" movie. Many "Easter egg" references to similar old movies are sprinkled throughout the story - a blue rose, from some of the "Thief Of Bagdad" movies; a clockwork owl, "Clash Of The Titans" of 1981; and many more. Since this Sinbad series of books is inspired by the Ray Harryhausen movies of the 1950s-80s, the author used "Easter eggs" to pay homage to Harryhausen's and similar fantasy films of that time period. The story itself is an exciting adventure with plenty of battles against human and magical creatures.

The second story appears to be a common "rescue the princess" tale, but turns out to be very different when the princess is finally encountered. Another good action and fantasy tale, with a twist.

The third story is a weird tale that sees Sinbad and crew sailing into the world of Lovecraft's Mythos. Sinbad agrees to sail a character from these Mythos tales to a mysterious isle where some Mythos-type creatures do not like being disturbed from their "sleep". This story has a very unique plot, with the combining of a Sinbad tale with the Mythos story elements that first appeared in the old pulp, Weird Tales, from the 1920s-30s.

The last tale has Sinbad playing chess for his life with a captive woman of an evil genie. The loser must die. How can Sinbad save the life of both of them? A shorter story than the rest, especially appealing to anyone who plays chess.

I highly recommend this anthology to those who enjoyed, and may still enjoy, the Harryhausen movies of the 50s-80s and other similar movies. And also to those who enjoy sword&fantasy tales in the Arabian Nights genre.
