5th Annual Green Building Tour

This year’s tour takes green enthusiasts to North Routt, visiting three different designs of homes under 2,500 square feet. The tour includes an “Earth Ship,” a radically sustainable design that is snuggled into the earth to take advantage of its stable temperatures and using reclaimed tires for its structure; a “Straw Bale” home, which uses straw- 100% natural reclaimed agricultural waste- for the majority of its structure, other home highlights include Warmboard radiant heating, evacuated solar tubes, and bamboo flooring; and a super energy efficient home, which highlights include specific orientation for thermal maximization, thermal bridging, polyisocyanurate insulation, and the results from an extremely high rated blower test.

The tour will finish at the North Routt Community Charter School, with a reception. The Charter School’s highlights include passive solar and PV Solar, beetle-kill pine beams and accents, water conserving fixtures, and both VAV air control and light conserving systems.
