100 important questions for plant science – revisited!

Ten years ago, Claire Grierson and colleagues asked the plant science community what the most pressing questions were in the field and for the broader public. Socially relevant questions about tackling food security and the environmental impacts of agricultural practices, controlling invasive and pathogenic species; untangling the genetic and molecular mechanisms that allow plants to contribute to their development and ecological success; and how plant diversity and overall biology can be used to improve sustainability and our greater understanding of organismal structure were some of the highlights of the first publication.

On the tenth anniversary of the project, Claire and her team are reflecting on the original findings and ask again how the plant science community can continue to invest in the most pressing and interesting areas of plant science.

Question submissions are welcome from everyone, including members of the general public in addition to those in academia, policy and funding bodies, and industry. Submissions can be made anonymously or credited, and there is no limit on the number of questions submitted.

You can submit questions until the end of December 2021. 100 questions from these submissions will be selected by a panel that represents those who benefit from plant science research. The final list will be published in New Phytologist.
