The Posse Foundation identifies public high school students with extraordinary academic and leadership potential who may be overlooked by traditional college selection process. The Foundation extends to these students the opportunity to pursue multicultural teams – a "posse"- of 10 students. The Foundation’s partner universities and colleges award Posse Scholars four-year, full-tuition leadership scholarships. Full tuition means that the scholarship will cover the cost of the classes that you take over four years but it will not cover the cost of room/board, meal plans, etc. Many of the schools will work with you to cover your other expenses if you have demonstrated need. Current Posse Houston partners: Bryn Mawr College, Carleton College, Colby College, Texas A&M University (STEM), Wellesley (STEM), and the University of Virginia. Texas A&M University and Wellesley will only select students interested in majors related to STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) fields. Energy Institute has 10 STEM nominations and 10 "Regular" nominations. STEM students can be interested in any of the schools, but if matched with A&M or Wellesley, they must major in STEM areas.
Posse Houston will conduct a dynamic three round interview process to select students. In the third round the colleges will be interviewing directly with the students and they will select 10 students for their school. You will be told prior to round three which school is interested in you. Prior to the process, Posse Scholars will ask you which schools you are interested in attending. If you have no desire to attend that school, you will not have an option to choose a different school. If you are selected as one of their final 10 – you will be granted early action admission to that school and must commit to attending.
Once selected as a Posse Scholar, you will meet weekly (2 hr meetings) with Posse trainers and your posse for the pre-collegiate training program. During your first two years of college you will meet regularly with your campus mentor and posse. After you graduate from college, they have a career program that helps Posse Scholars transition from being leaders on campus to leaders in the workforce.
