- Reviewed in the United States on February 23, 2012Format: PaperbackVerified PurchaseI saw on the news recently that some reviews are set-ups so I want to assure any reader that I am an actual expectant mother of twins! I like to read tips and expectant information on what is happening and what I might plan for in the future. I bought 4 books, all against what everyone I know says, which was to ignore the books. I am soooooooo extremely happy with my purchase of this book!! I have something bookmarked on every page!! For a beginning parent, this book gives you short twin tips that are informative and written in a easy to read and understand non-jugdemental way. My favorite chapter is the chapter on The early days and weeks, when you first bring your twinkies home. Suggestions on how to do feedings, sleeping schedules, and how to make up bottles are featured in this chapter! I also like the section on preparing for twins and what you may need and what you may not. I love how the author doesn't just give a list of what to get but discusses why you either need or don't need that item! I recommend this book to ANY new parent of twins who are looking for an easy sit down and read without getting overwhelled or fearful of what is to come book!!
- Reviewed in the United States on June 22, 2014I was pregnant with my twins when I read this book. It was great to be educated about raising twins in advance, and reading tips and advice from a mother of twins who also is a pediatrician. I have used many of the techniques and tips she mentions in her book; however, you have to be flexible when raising twins. Pretty much everything you read and hear can apply to your children in some ways, but nothing goes by text book. For example, the book talks about keeping your twins on the same sleep schedule, and that makes complete sense, but when my sons were born, we learned that one of them liked to sleep and is still a good sleeper while the other twin doesn't like to sleep much. From birth, he took short naps and took a long time to fall asleep at nights. So, naturally, they didn't sleep together or at the same time, and woke up at different times. If you can keep them on the same schedule, that's awesome, but babies are their separate individuals and don't sync their schedules. Same thought applies to many other aspects of raising twins. I have learned to treat each one separately depending on their little personality. I do recommend this book to all expectant parents of twins.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 11, 2014As a parent of an 18 months old daughter and father to be of twins I found this book very helpful and straight forward. I bought it in a moment of great anxiety for me and my wife, some days after we learnt that our family would increase from 3 to 5 members in one day...
While reading it it was comforting to know that we weren't alone in what the author calls "a roller coaster of feelings", a very intense and strange mixture of deep worries and utter joy (that I think few people understand, except those who are parents of multiples).
Knowing that the author herself is a mother of twins (and two other children) and also a pediatrician was a big plus for me. As a professional caregiver she gives an interesting insight of what the pregnancy of multiples risks are, and what you should keep in mind during the successive stages of development of both the twins and their siblings. On the other hand, from her experience as a mother she gives valuable advises on what to do to raise your children and not die in the intent, on how you should buy what is necessary for them but also reuse things lent by family and friends, on how you should accept help offered by people arround you (because you'll need it), on what to do to ensure they grow up as individuals, etc.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 11, 2014Format: PaperbackVerified PurchaseWhen you find out you're having twins, especially when they're your first kids, you can feel pretty intimidated right from the get-go. Book titles refer to "surviving," "keeping your sanity," etc. Also, well-meaning friends and family tend to heap on the "get your sleep now" (so, if I sleep a lot now, I won't need it later? And what if I can't sleep very well?) and "I hope you're ready" (how would I be?) types of warnings, which takes intimidation straight into the fear zone. Few people have said, "Hey, you know, you can do this. Yeah, there are hard parts, but you can do it and you might even enjoy it. Here's how."
Well, that's the message of this book. The author focuses on HOW to do it. She acknowledges the different challenges that people face with twins, but always couples those acknowledgements with advice, strategies, and ways to get support. Her tone is friendly and matter-of-fact. She covers pregnancy, the early months, the first year, and the toddler years, all separately and with specific twin advice. I read the book in an afternoon and actually looked forward to raising my twins when I was done. If you're a first-time mom like me, and you're having twins, you won't regret buying this book.

2.0 out of 5 stars If you really have twins, you'd better save your time by reading other books than this one!
Format: PaperbackVerified PurchaseNot so useful... and a waste of time if you have twins to raise, especially for the first months. In the book are offered only very general tips and even that, some tips are debatable among parents with different habits and culture backgrounds (without mentioning it, the author presented the content like "my way of doing is ..., and my tip is ...", which do not work for everyone). For example, her tip is putting babies on the same sleeping schedule, so that the mum will not burn out. I tried to put my twins on the same schedule, but it just didn't work out like you would want to --- my babies just naturally have their own sleeping habits and I want to keep their own habits and personality. Then when you need to know what to do when her tips don't work, the paragraph ends there, only tips for free, no solution to problems! And most of the content is not supported by scientific research data... the author just gave out common sense suggestions or her way of raising the kids. After all, resuming everything from pregnancy to preschool in 200 pages, you bet there is not a lot details for each step and aspect. I do not recommend it.
