A memorable day at Space Camp

Broadcast Date: 08/05/2015

This week, Travel Correspondent Tom Wilmer went to summer camp at The Circle V Ranch Camp.

Founded in 1945 by the Society of St. Vincent de Paul Council of Los Angeles, the camp is celebrating its 70th Anniversary. Since 1990, the camp has been tucked in a dreamy canyon just a mile up a winding gravel road just off Highway 145, close to the Lake Cachuma Park entrance in Santa Barbara County. The camp adventure coincided with a special Lost in Space Week. NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratories scientist, Tom Nolan was a camper at Circle V back in the early 1960s and he was on hand the day of our visit along with seven of his research-associates from JPL, USC, California Science Center, and Huntington High Science Department. The scientists shared their scientific research and exploration of the universe with the campers—who engaged in hands-on-science where they took the controls of remotely operated vehicles to plumb the aquatic depths of the swimming pool…They learned about the Mars rovers and robots, and built and launched their own rockets. Join correspondent, Tom Wilmer for a most memorable day at Circle V’s Camp--Space Camp that is.
