NYC LGBTQ+ Mental Health Resource List

If you are interested in submitting a licensed psychotherapist or psychiatrist listing, please email nycqmhi@gmail.com. Currently I am accepting listings only for providers who are in network with at least one insurance provider and/or who will offer sliding scale rates starting below $125 to users of this list. I include one listing per private/group practice.

If you meet this criteria, please send the following information in this order, including just your responses (i.e. please don’t include the headers below):

Please note this compiled guide is currently a one-person volunteer project that grew out of the now-defunct NYC Queer Mental Health Initiative. It is not affiliated with any organizations, collectives, or Facebook groups (including Queer Mental Health--I am not and have never been a group mod/admin but appreciate the volunteers who are!), and listings are largely crowdsourced; not all information has been individually vetted.

Sliding Scale, In-Network, Low Fee, and Free Mental Health Care Programs and Resources

NOTE: If you have in network-only health insurance coverage but the therapist you want to see (or have been seeing) is out of network, consider requesting a single case agreement (SCA) from your insurance company. This is a kind of contract under which your insurance will cover your sessions as though they are in network. Health insurance companies don’t advertise this option, but it is available! More details on how to go about advocating for yourself to get an SCA here.

*Practitioners listed here are not necessarily endorsed or vetted by the former QMHI team, but many have been suggested or had their names provided by members of the NYC LGBTQ+ communities. Ask for a preliminary consultation, confirm in advance that you will not be charged for it, and ask lots of questions to ensure that you will feel comfortable with the person who may become your therapist! Note that LCSWs (licensed clinical social workers) can work in private practices, while LMSWs (licensed master social workers, who are often working towards clinical licensure) must see clients under the auspices of a group practice or clinic and receive ongoing clinical supervision.
