Cook as you are: facilitate the flavours of life

For as long as I can remember, food has played a huge part in my life. Growing up in Taiwan, a place with a huge street food culture, my mom rarely did any home cooking. Just before she leaves work to head home, she would call me and ask, "What do you want to eat today?" and grab the items of my appetite on her way home. From an early age, I learned, spoonful by spoonful, that choice was something I could make every day, meal by meal. That diversity was literally around the corner, one food hawker away. This, together with my recurring childhood dream, characterizes my facilitation style.

My love for food has grown beyond just satisfying my hunger. It has become a way for me to connect with people and cultures. Every dish tells a story, and every culture or family origin has its unique flavor. That’s why I would like collect meaningful recipes, related to a particular taste. What flavour is most celebrated in the dish? And how does that taste relate to the lessons of life?

My wish is to collect the stories and be inspired by them in my path of becoming a Processwork Diplimate. I am currently studying with the Deep Democracy Institute with Ellen Schupbach, Josef Helbling and Billy Say on the guiding team.

With gratutude and joy,

Sara

Thank you so so much for sharing your story and submitting the meaningful dish! My way of showing gratitude, is by sharing a tiny story of my own.

Below is a picture of a lime pie, made by my kiddo and I during lockdown. The flavour most celebrated in this dish is SOUR. We use 6 limes and 3 lemons to make this pie, as we both adore how sourness can make you cringe but also wanting for more. That spring of 2020 felt strange and connecting. Looking back, we were creative in enjoying the small things in life. Looking at this pie, I realise this is how I most enjoy life, when there are different textures and layers coming together. Just like our own littel mixed raced family....
