Ron was the beloved husband of Jennifer and loving father to Daniel and Joanne. He was delighted to be "Papa" to Aidan and Isla and to be Grandad to Freya.
He was a dedicated Labour councillor for St George West for 30 years and has been described as an establishment rebel, passionate about Bristol. He cared deeply for social justice and his hard work over the years has been recognised by all faiths and political allegiances. He championed many causes, and helped thousands of individuals over the years. He was very proud of having been made an honorary Sikh.
With his wife Jennifer he showed championship winning King Charles Spaniels and made the "Maynorth" prefix known across the world. He had stood on many of the breed associations and committees, written numerous articles and been a judge at the highest level - including Crufts.
He was a skilled photographer and camera enthusiast and was seldom without a camera at his side. Prior to his interest in photography, he was an accomplished horticulturist, exhibiting prize winning roses and guesting on Gardener's Question Time.
We have all been very shocked at his passing but know he has left the city of Bristol a remarkable legacy. Above all, he was a good and decent man.

A Wonderful Man. When he passed my heart broke.
Earlier that year he virtually fought tooth and nail for and with me, and I live outside of the ward of St Georges so technically he didn't have to.. Every year I think of him and thank him for sharing his strength. You're gone but definitely not forgotten.

Where do i begin writing, how do you honour such a great man.
Ron was the best part of my day, a hero for me in many ways. Ron was twice my age, twice the man.
Ron made Bristol a brilliant place to live, welcoming friendly, sharing stories about his adventures, grand children, his cavaliers and breeding skills amongst some of the amazing developments that he was aiming to take shape and implement around Bristol.
From the bottom of my heart Ron, you will always be remembered and spoke of with pure kindness.
Thank you so much for all your achievements.
I'd been out of touch with Ron for a long time, and went on-line to check his email address. I was shocked and saddened to read of his death back in December. Since I live in the USA, I only met Ron on-line, through a mutual interest in King Charles Spaniels. He was the nicest, kindest, most helpful person I've encountered in a long time. He was a wonderful teacher about spaniels, and never hesitated to pass on his knowledge. My deepest sympathy to Jenny Stone.
We first met Ron and Jenny when we started showing King Charles Spaniels and at the time other people seemed reluctant to talk to us but with Ron it was different, as we were always benched next to them there was always a welcome from them both and this was always the case throughout the many years we have known them. he had a special sense of humour and Gill and myself will surely miss his presence around the ringside
Ron was a fantastic person to work with and did so much for St George and the wider area. He encouraged young people in Speedwell to campaign for funding to improve their local park and to speak up for their area. His work will continue.
I valued Ron's advice and support and I'm so sad he is no longer with us. His constituency work and commitment was incredible. Ron's photography was brilliant and I will treasure the photos he took of me during my campaign.
So very sad, have only just heard the news. Our thoughts go out to the family at this sad time. He was a man with a clear vision. If it wasn't for him and his wife, we probably would never have had a KCS and missed out on some wonderful years.
I have only just heard that Ron has died. Truly shocking to have someone who has been so committed ,passionate, and supportive about whatever he was involved in has gone.In my years as a trade union official I came to know his strength and support first hand something I will always remember with gratitude and great affection. He will be greatly missed.
Ron was incredibly generous with his time, he was always supportive, and if he felt that there was a problem with your proposals, he would work with you to find the best solution. He was a mind of knowledge and was always willing to help. Legend is a word that is used far too loosely used today, but his vociferous approach to his counselling role was a shining example of working for the greater good, and the city will miss him.
I was very sadden to hear of the passing of Ron, he was a true gentleman who always had time for you to chat about dogs and just of late helping me with my photography, I first met Ron and his wife jenny when I got my first KCS and he was very encouraging and very helpful (as at the time I was only 9 years old) - I have some lovely photos my dogs taken by Ron and he would never take anything for them, he would also find time to speak to my husband about car, bikes etc that he had photographed - he will be sorely missed around the ringside with his friendly hello and smile - our thought and prayers are being sent to Jenny and his family at this time.
Ron was a genuine stalwart who will be greatly missed. He showed such sincerity when helping individuals and families. He used to say that if something wasn't good enough for him or his family then it wasn't good enough for other people. I will never forget his ongoing support and concern when dealing with a bereavement within my own family in 2015.
We first met Ron and Jenny about 30 years ago when we both started showing King Charles Spaniels. They were friendly and kind and have always been so. Ron took some lovely photos of our dogs which he gave us over the years and I treasure them as I do his kindness!
Our deepest sympathy goes to Jenny and the family.
A kind, quiet and unassuming gentleman, who I held in great esteem. His knowledge of the King Charles Spaniel breed was vast and reflected in his excellent ability to judge.
I first got to know Ron 30 years ago when we were both members of Avon County Council. He was a committed socialist who got things done, working incredibly hard and effectively for those he represented.
He is greatly missed.
Deepest condolences to his family.
Summerhill Infant School was saddened to hear the news that Cllr Ron Stone had passed away over the Christmas holidays and we send our condolences to his family. He had been a regular visitor to the school and had campaigned on behalf of the children at the school for changes to the local community. I will fondly remember his keen eye for detail and ever ready listening ear, always willing to help. I will always be indebted for the support he offered me when I first moved to Bristol in 2007. He was a good friend to our school and will be missed.

We were saddened to hear of the death of Ron Stone. He contributed so much to the University of Bristol, as a member of staff in the School of Physics, through his activities with the trade union and as a long standing member of Court. He is remembered as a great colleague and friend by all who knew him. On behalf of the University, I would like to offer my sincere condolences to his family.
We shall all miss Ron at the dog shows which he regularly attended. A gentleman who was so dedicated in everything he undertook. Thinking of Jenny and family at this sad time.
It is with sadness that I heard that Ron Stone passed away in Hospital on 30th December 2015.
I remember when he & Jenny first started in Cavaliers & then went onto own; breed & Judge King Charles Spaniels, a breed he became besotted with.
I also remember their first Charlie Amantra Tickled Pink which I had the pleasure of judging.
He had bred Champions & had the supreme accolade of judging at Crufts. He also gave a lot of time to being Chairman of the King Charles Spaniel Association for over 20 years & upon his retirement he & Jenny were rewarded with Honorary Life Membership which they accepted. I remember him ringside camera in hand happily snapping away at exhibits & then explaining to Raoul how his various cameras worked. Apart from Photography, Car Boots were his other past time, where he obtained many rare cameras at knock down prices. Whilst working for the Bristol Fire Service he also became a well respected Councillor for the Labour Party.
Sadly another oldtimer leaves us, but his legacy continues in his dogs. Mine & Raoul's deepest condolences go to Jenny & children.

Sincere condolences, Ron was a wonderful man, an excellent judge of King Charles Spaniels and an even better photographer. He always made time at shows to come and talk. He will be sorely missed
