- Reviewed in the United States on April 21, 2017Let me start out by stating that I’m a skeptic. Over the years I’ve read quite a few “get rich” books. I’m not embarrassed to say that I like the idea of making money. And as much as I like making money, I think I like saving money even more. I was surfing books on wealth and money on Amazon and came across this one. My initial reaction was to roll my eyes and discount it as B.S. However, I kept coming back to it (I liked the cover, duh!) and eventually my resolve faltered and I ordered a copy and honestly, I’m glad I did. The author, Marilyn, actually made good common sense and offered genuine advice and suggestions that I thought were valuable and, more importantly, workable, even for a skeptic like me. Even thought a lot of the suggestions are written with women in mind, I found that they easily worked just as effectively for men - I actually saved money! Also, I was entertained by the author’s writing style. It was crisp, entertaining and humorous. The truth is, this book has already paid for itself (tickets to a show). I commend the author for her good advice and thank her for helping me save some of my greenbacks and to broaden my horizons in the process. I do recommend this book for yourself or as a gift for a friend.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 20, 2017This is a fun lively, but more importantly, informative and practical book that can save everyone a lot of $$$! I was amazed at all of the ways that there are to do things for free or save a lot of money, even in a pricey city like Los Angeles. I was particularly intrigued with the free vacation to Spain! Your accountant will kiss you for all the money you could save by doing just a few of Ms. Anderson’s tips. College graduates can use it to find ways to live economically as they get started in their careers. Young parents can use it, because they have to find new ways to make their dollars stretch. Singles can use it to look and live better, without it costing a fortune. People approaching retirement need it, because living on a fixed income requires creative ways to get more bang for that fixed income buck. As you can tell, I am very impressed with this little gem. You’ll pay for the cost of the book by using just one tip!
- Reviewed in the United States on June 16, 2017Disappointing would about cover it. |Getting $600 shoes for $100 isn't helpful if you don't have the million she refers to. Very few of the suggested web-sites have prices that the average person can afford. Obviously, there is a gross misunderstanding about what is possible for people with limited money can afford.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 12, 2017I haven't read the whole book yet because there's so much good stuff in it and I can't take advantage of it all at once. But I can tell you that the first tip I got paid off in spades. It was my husband's birthday and I didn't know what to get him. I had just read about the theater lotteries and Book of Mormon was on its last few weeks in town. He would've killed me if I'd spent $250 on tickets for us to see the show. So, we headed over to the theater for the lottery and we won a pair of tickets to the show -- $25 each, front row. And I have to say, they were the best seats in the house! The cast on stage was interacting with us (which I loved!) and we could see everything so clearly -- no binoculars necessary. And, because we just had to know -- we asked the folks in the row right behind us how much they paid -- $125 per ticket. The lottery was fun. There was even a man there who'd been doing the lottery at theaters in all the big cities when he'd be in town and hadn't won ever yet he won while we were there. The whole experience was really fun. And I felt like a millionaire sitting in the front row of such a great show. Thanks, Marilyn for sharing your secrets!
- Reviewed in the United States on August 22, 2017The author lists a number of websites which offer discounts. Many of her recommendations involve purchasing used merchandise. Most of the advice is for women.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 10, 2017I consider myself a guy who can find a decent bargain, but Marilyn Anderson's book had some seriously good information I hadn't come across before. For that alone, well worth the price. But she also throws in a lot of funny, sometimes juicy anecdotes from her own life. So it's useful AND entertaining. (I got the Kindle edition, BTW.) Some chapters may not interest you but some of them will have you writing stuff down for future reference. In other words, there will stuff in here that made you glad you got the book. She did good work-- both in the research and the writing.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 14, 2017Buy this book! It’s entertaining, it’s useful, and it eminently fulfills the promise of its title and subtitle. You’ll come away with enough tips to live the millionaire’s life for years to come.
Think Broadway shows are expensive to attend? You’ll think otherwise after Marilyn Anderson teaches you how to sidestep the system and skillfully play the ticket game. Looking for some great websites from which you can order $4.00 generic drugs? Anderson puts them out there for you.
How to Live Like a Millionaire is a treasure trove of tips and money-saving secrets. More importantly, though, Anderson trains us in a mindset – a way to discipline our thinking about money, and what’s ultimately important to us. And she peppers her narrative with hilarious personal stories of how this resourceful author learned to game our challenging economy without a day-job.
A must-read for those looking to live like a millionaire on a shoe string.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 24, 2017Omg...I LOVE this book! It's fun and funny...along with having the greatest information on places to go, things to do, items to buy...and all of it while you're saving lots of money! I'm personally someone who loves to find bargains, deals and freebies. Although I knew about a few of the things mentioned, there were many more new ideas and things I hadn't heard about before. A wealth of ways to have fun....without being wealthy! Plus, I totally enjoyed reading the author's witty personal stories. Humor + great info = 5 stars!!
