What is a crisis worth if it has not transformed you!
Midnight Journey of a Seed brings to light the deeper story of human resilience in the face of a pandemic. By integrating poetry, anecdotes, art and contemplative practices, the book takes readers on a healing journey and offers pathways to co-create a resilient future.
“We are living in a moment of profound disruption, a moment when one civilisation is ending and another is about to be born. To truly understand the deeper essence of this moment, we must extend our inquiry from the outside world to the one that emerges from within. In this book, Manish Srivastava guides us through this journey of extending systems thinking with the means of social poetry. He takes us on a creative pathway towards what matters most today - our inner development. Highly personal, highly recommended!”
— Otto Scharmer, Senior Lecturer at MIT, USA and Author of the bestselling books, Theory U and Presence
“This book is like a cup of fresh ginger tea in the face of the pandemic. Manish has set a new benchmark in writing by brewing love, wisdom and faith into poetry that gives us hope to bravely face our obstacles and inspires us to find new, creative solutions.
— Ajay Chopra, Chef, Youtuber, TV Host of Masterchef India
“A sensitive work. Reading this book makes you relive the pandemic but ends on a note of hope, renewal and love.”
— Chetan Mahajan, Penguin published Author and Founder of the Himalayan Writing Retreat

We face with our destiny

- Reviewed in India on 20 March 2022Verified PurchaseThe pandemic put all of us on a journey that we thought we were not ready for. We didn't see it coming, we said. But as I read Manish’s words, I realised that perhaps the resilience to live through and beyond this pandemic is something that was always inside of us. In the evolution of humanity, the pandemic is as core to us as the will to survive. It is nature, as Manish explains kindly. And what we must acknowledge and reconnect with is the seed within whose time has come…
“You and I make each other whole
Let us trust the longing to be free
And serve the world
By being the plant
We were born to be”
An intense ‘experience’ (because that is what reading ‘Midnight Journey of a Seed’ is), this book is a powerful memoir, in prose and poetry by Manish who is a systems thinker and a practitioner of contemplative arts like no other. You can feel it in how every word sits in your mind, heart and body as you flip through the pages… From page one you’re plunged into that which you have perhaps not made your peace with, the pain and the trauma, that we have chosen to perhaps brush under the carpet as life returns to ‘normal’. But through this reliving, Manish guides you like a gentle soothsayer, peeling back the layers of your own vulnerability, while offering a healing balm of love, resilience and togetherness that we all experience(d) as we live(d) through this time. In one part, Manish compares this to the exercise of composting, where all that we haven’t processed, needs to be “seen, mixed, metabolised, integrated and transformed into the soil to spring forth new life”. And that gives one heart like nothing else.
I felt healed by reading this book. And new energy to not let go of that experience which has transformed my consciousness as an individual, as part of a society and as an inhabitant of this earth. Pick up this book if you feel like sense making of this new reality is what you’re seeking. And find true compassion in its pages and within yourself. To be nourished and nurtured, as Manish says, to hold a 'subtle intention', that we may all find our inner resilience…
- Reviewed in India on 20 March 2022Verified PurchaseThe poems by Manish give a deeper meaning to the experiences that people have gone through during the pandemic.
The journey from going inwards to draw into ones own resource to revival is captured beautifully. Reading the "Midnight journey of a seed" got me in touch with the human side of the pandemic which has been so simply expressed through the poems.
- Reviewed in India on 4 April 2022Verified PurchaseOnce again with poetry Manish transcends the nostalgic painful and personal analogies into relatable, palpable words of wisdom that can melt your hearts. His lyrical and powerful imagery which is rooted in his experiences which are a shared common truth (Covid) of all evokes real emotions of anger, love, warmth, regret and most of all 'subtle intentions'. I recommend this book to everyone who has feelings untapped, looking for words to be woven into, from the last 3 years of battle with Covid 19. You will find solace and conclusion to those feelings here! So, dive right in.
- Reviewed in India on 18 March 2022Verified PurchaseI thought it is a poetry book, but I was wrong. It has poems - Yes! But it is actually a companion through loss, helping us make sense of what happened, reconcile, heal, and rediscover joy. It includes beautiful poems, warli art and contemplative practices. I am sure this book will be my go to for a while now, it's not a typic read through book. Thanks a lot for writing, highly recommend!

My own resilience, my dedicated resolve to being alive to the whole, became more available to me. I am so grateful to Manish Srivastava for sharing his experience, his heart, his power and his skill in such a profoundly beautiful and incisive way. 5.0 out of 5 stars Honest, deep work that offers a path of healing through trauma
Verified PurchaseThis is a unique book - part journal, part poetry and part workbook. I think the best way to describe this book would be to call it "an invitation" - to do the deep work all of us who have gone through trauma must eventually do, to find in the author's words "buried in the dark..a seed of hope." In a deeply personal account, the author illustrates his own fraught journey through the Covid-19 pandemic and especially the Delta wave, which impacted almost every household in India. But nowhere does his heart shine brighter than in his poems - honest, deep, reflective meditations on the arduous journey within. Sometimes walking through but often sitting with his personal & collective anguish, the author suggests a pathway of & to resilience in the face of any "pandemic" we face in our lives. Each section of the book ends with practices that helps the reader develop their own inner work. I found many parts of the book deeply resonant to my own journey and I know I will keep it close-by so I can return to it again in the future!
