The Sok Impact Scholarship is a community-rooted award created to uplift and support students of Cambodian descent pursuing higher education — in any field, at any college, with any dream.
This scholarship was founded by Linda and KT Tang, first-generation college graduates who understand the power of opportunity — and the importance of believing in someone’s potential beyond just their academic performance.
Linda, a daughter of Cambodian refugees, grew up in a tough neighborhood in Santa Ana where gang violence, teenage pregnancy, and low-income households were the norm. Thanks to the guidance and support of mentors and the scholarships she received, Linda became the first in her family to attend college. She went on to earn both a Bachelor’s and a Master’s degree — a journey that helped break the cycle of poverty in her life.
KT arrived in the U.S. as a Trieu Chau-Cambodian immigrant in middle school. Despite the challenges of language and cultural barriers, he was accepted into a UC, eventually transferring to Cal Poly to earn his engineering degree. That education became the foundation for his career and a stepping stone toward uplifting his family — thanks in large part to mentorship and networking.
Linda and KT created this scholarship to give back. They know that college isn’t just about grades — sometimes, a little financial help is what makes a big dream possible. Whether you’re studying, creating, building, serving, performing, or finding your path — this scholarship is here to support you.
