Hello. My name is [Name].
[Include the following if a constituent: I'm a constituent of your district, and] I'm calling to join the 100+ community organizations that are asking you to please support and include $30 million in the state budget to help refugee-serving organizations in our state.

This $30 million request submitted by Rep. My-Linh Thai in the House would provide emergency funding to resettlement agencies and community organizations serving refugees in Washington, and is especially critical right now when our state has made a commitment to welcoming our Afghan allies and we are seeing the crisis unfold in Ukraine.

The House included $15 million of this $30 million request in its proposed budget,
but we are asking the House to please increase that amount to $30 million. We are also asking the Senate to include this $30 million request in its budget.

This funding is necessary because the resettlement infrastructure in our state was gutted under the Trump administration and impacted by the pandemic. With roughly 3,300 refugee arrivals in our state in just the last six months alone, we are facing an unprecedented crisis. The one-time $30 million fund would allow the State to help build the capacity of refugee-serving organizations to help ALL refugees restart their lives here in our state, including our new Afghan neighbors and those who will be coming from Ukraine.

Time is running out to include this critical budget request, and we strongly urge you to please support this $30 million request.
[Include if comfortable: Feel free to contact me at [phone number] if you have questions or to express your support.]
Thank you!
