Transcript: My name is Jehanne McCullough. I am a Government major and Honors student at Gallaudet University. I am conducting a study on reasons why some Deaf people did not vote in the 2016 presidential election. I also want to find out whether more ASL resources in certain areas would encourage more Deaf people to vote in future elections. Some examples of ASL resources include ASL videos on candidates’ positions and an ASL hotline on videophone to help Deaf people resolve their voting issues. These may make the voting process more convenient for Deaf people. I would like to find out if expanding ASL resources would encourage more Deaf people to vote in future. As part of my study, I set up an online survey. It is bilingual with all questions in ASL and English. The survey is very brief and has fewer than 7 questions. It will have a big impact on understanding what would encourage Deaf people to vote in elections more. Hopefully, this will help improve ASL election resources that are needed to give Deaf people more equal opportunities to participate in the American political process.
