The Kaleidoscope---What's that?

ka·lei·do·scope

kəˈlīdəˌskōp/

noun

        1. a toy consisting of a tube containing mirrors and pieces of colored glass or paper, whose reflections produce changing patterns that are visible through an eyehole when the tube is rotated.
              • a constantly changing pattern or sequence of objects or elements.
                • "the dancers moved in a kaleidoscope of color"
            • When you enter "kaleidoscope" into a Google search, the above information is at the top of the page. Maybe you had a kaleidoscope as a child. Maybe not. I had a small handheld one when I was eight. I was mesmerized by the colors; it reminded me of my dreams. While playing with the kaleidoscope I realized that the light was what made the colors so vivid. If it was a cloudy day the colors were dim. If it was dark there was nothing to see.

The same is true with life and literature. Without light there is no color, no beauty. In the classroom the "light" is knowledge. The more you know the brighter the colors shine. Whether it is reading a piece of literature or writing an essay the beauty can only be seen if you know. The goal of my English class is to give you the knowledge that you need to shine when you read, when you write, and when you go forth into the world.
