Begin your Background Check

Thank you for your interest in volunteering to serve on an UMCOR Early Response Team. Many of our partners in National VOAD require volunteers to undergo a background check before you can begin assisting with the disaster relief effort. UMCOR feels this is good policy in order to assure our “clients” that we are sending the most qualified and trustworthy persons to assist them.  The process for ordering your background check is simple and takes less than 5 minutes.  Here’s a quick overview:

  • Enter your personal information (Name, address, date of birth etc.)
  • Review and electronically sign our consent form
  • Confirm your information and choose to have UMCOR pay for your background check, or you may make a donation by paying for the background check yourself.

Once your background check is completed, and the class registration information is received by UMCOR, your badge will be processed and mailed to your conference for distribution. 

In addition to sharing your background check with UMCOR, you will also be able to share your check for up to 1 year with organizations who are currently members of the Sterling Volunteers community.  If an organization is not part of the Sterling Volunteers network you will be able share your background check by providing a printed copy.
