Un-Adoptable? Faith Beyond Foster Care
The adoption agency made a mistake. A mother welcomed in a child who brought fear and destruction into the home. She wrestles with God, doctors, and social workers over what to do next. Quick thinking, leaps of faith, and some dark humor challenges readers to ask themselves: Do I have what it takes to raise a child with a harrowing past… or an uncertain future? Un-Adoptable? reveals deeply personal questions that arise when pursuing this parenting path.

In the memoir, Janelle Molony shines a spotlight on the reality and heartaches that often come with foster parenting and adoption. The painful, yet miraculous story will leave you full of hope, joy, empathy, and compassion. Her honesty and transparency gives prospective and current parents the courage to feel things we think we're not supposed to feel, but do on a regular basis. Her story gives us permission to feel like a failure, make mistakes, or feel like quitting, without condemnation or guilt. Then, she bolsters the reader with hope for the future. - Reviewed in the United States on February 5, 2020I highly recommend this book! I bought it off of Amazon and got it yesterday. I planned to just read a couple of chapters. Next thing I knew, I was already on Chapter 5, anxiously waiting to continue reading. It is an incredible story and not just a story, but a raw true story, with amazing and loving people. It is riveting and eye opening. We need more books like this one in this day age. You'll love reading this book all the way through and you will want to tell others to get it and read it, too!
- Reviewed in the United States on March 1, 2020This book is a deeply personal story of the trials, tribulations, and rewards of fostering or adopting a child, with emphasis on a child with special needs. Molony addresses the stories of her experience with empathy, humor, and honesty. It’s not all sugar and spice, but it’s honest and gritty. If you’re looking for insights into understanding what fostering and adoption can mean for you, your spouse, and your family, this book is a good start.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 19, 2020I got through this book in just two days. I couldn’t put it down. Everything about it captured my heart and soul. Janelle does such a wonderful job honoring her sons story. I cried, laughed and wanted to throw the book across the room. Is there going to be a book #2? It’s a big ask of the author but I sure I hope so. If you are thinking about starting a family or even if you’re dead set on never having kids this is an eye opener and will change your heart in so many amazing ways. Thank you for this book Janelle
- Reviewed in the United States on April 14, 2021Just finished the book, which I read in 2 sittings. I’M NOT ALONE?! Wow. The stages of Foster-Adoptive Parenting are incredible! Our foster adoption story looks very similar, but feels like we have fewer victories. Definitely at Stage 5 right now. Our kiddo has major verbal disorders and can’t verbalize any of his trauma. It’s turned to self-harm and I’m about to lose my mind. Thank God for HIM. But I’m exhausted. We’re 9 years in and it’s getting worse. Where did you find support groups?!
- Reviewed in the United States on January 29, 2020In full disclosure I’m blessed to call the author a friend. That being said, I just devoured this book in a single sitting, and finish with the shedding of a couple small tears - not from sadness, but hope. Not just for her story, or for other foster families, but hope for me as well. What an incredible story of faith and determination and pure love.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 1, 2020A well-writen and insightful dive into the world of adoption. The author showed vuneralbilty in sharing the struggles and victories of the family's journey. This book is not just for people interested in adoption or foster care. The rawness and realness of this book is inspiring.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 26, 2020I enjoyed reading this book. It was sweet, and tells a good story about a family who adopted from foster care. I wouldn't say it was well written though- the author bounced all over the place. It was like a high schooler wrote it. But I think it was a good down to earth read for anyone who is curious about what the foster to adopt process is really like.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 27, 2020I love the honestly, purity and vulnerability conveyed in this book. My heart full of joy at the end of Chapter 17. Too often pretty pictures are painted of life and this book is a reminder of the real real!
