From the Author
I'm very proud to bring you the results of a three-year journey. My goal was to bring something fresh to a decaying genre, and give you a few things to think about along the way. I hope I did that. Thanks for taking a chance with me. Enjoy the read.

About the author

DAN WALTZ
author * illustrator * artist
Dan's artwork tell their own stories, and his stories paint their own pictures.
Dan's love for nature shines through with every finely tuned brush stroke of his realistic paintings. His drawings and paintings have graced the covers and insides of many national catalogs, novels and kids books across America. His written words have spoken to kids and adults alike in both paperback and ebook formats, and have sold thousands across the globe. His love for horror and fantasy is reflected in every written word. His detailed stories usually take on double meanings and rarely end the way you think they will. Filled with twists and turns, Dan's stories aim to keep you intrigued from start-to-finish.
Dan just released his latest book, Against All Odds: Adopted. A great family read for all ages. Its a Photographic Journey of a Sandhill Crane family adopting a Gosling and raising it as their own despite their differences. The story was inspired by true events that took place at Kensington Metropark in Milford, Michigan, 2019.
Dan works on several stories at once; "Exploited, No Boundaries," "Memorial Highway," and "Carnyville" are a few current WIPs.
"Follow your Dreams Folks or you'll end up helping someone else follow theirs."

- Reviewed in the United States on March 2, 2013When I first started reading Viral Bound I wasn't sure what to expect as I've never read a Zombie book before. I was in for a pleasant surprise right from the cool beginning. This story is fast-paced with real-time experiences. The way the author mixed in facebook and twitter usages was brilliant and made reading more fun. Some of the military references made me curious but the whole cancer tie-in made it work for me. I read this book over the course of two days, which is fast for me, but I just wanted to see what would happen next and how it would end. If other zombie books are as good as this one I will have to read more.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 12, 2013In fact I was pleasantly surprised to find this book is quite different from the majority of books in this genre. Lots of twists and turns to keep you guessing, and it was cool to see how the author ties in social media and stuff concerning how the government would handle such a situation, it all felt like it could really happen in the way he portrays it in Viral Bound. Pretty scary to think about! Scary, but fun! The book zips along at a fast pace and I found myself not wanting to put it down, so I literally read it in one day. This was definitively one of the better zombie books I've read. I hope there will be a sequel!
- Reviewed in the United States on May 6, 2013I chose this as a suggestion from very trusted people. I took the time and read this novel thoroughly as i do every new book i pick up. I must say, that i had to re-read sections, not because i was confused but because there was so much going on that i felt that i was reading to fast to keep up with the pace of the story. Dan Waltz really took the "virus" or whatever you would call the creator of the "walking undead" into a premise that as you read through, if you do not pick up the details, the end is unclaimed. Fast paced, character driven and boss.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 30, 2013Viral Bound was an excellent read! I thoroughly enjoyed that the book was in real-time. I loved that the author really tried to take into consideration how every-day people, media, social networking and the government would handle an outbreak situation. Genius! Viral bound is very well written, easy to follow, yet keeps you on the edge of your seat! I do not read often, but this book was so good I read it in just a few days! I could NOT put it down!
- Reviewed in the United States on February 24, 2013Just finished the book. With all of the modern day distractions, it's been awhile since I've taken time to read a book in one session. This was one of those rare stories that pulled me in on page one and kept me there until the end. I highly recommend this book!
- Reviewed in the United States on May 23, 2013I just loved this book..I couldnt stop reading once I started..The Author Dan Waltz has an amazing imagination and his writing technique makes you feel you are right there with the characters in the book. The detail is amazing. Its a book you want to read again and again. I look forward to more books by this wonderful author. Two thumbs up 5 stars for me..you must read this book
- Reviewed in the United States on August 7, 2013Maybe I was wrong to assume, but I thought VIRAL BOUND would be about a cancer patient fighting zombies. It is and it isn't. Until the last chapter, the character with cancer isn't revealed and THAT character isn't fighting zombies in the last chapter. I was prepared to give this book a two star rating, but the ending pissed me off. So, now it's one star.
I liked and hated the author's morbid sense of humor. Besides the reason for the development of the zombie virus (they needed something else for people to die from since cancer was cured), the humor set the book apart from others in its genre.
Scene where the humor works: Steven has to hide in the garbage to hide from zombies. He stinks so bad that the zombies can't find him. Then he discovers that the garbage is full of maggots and flies. On his way out of the garbade, he sees the sign that says `recyclables only'.
^^See, that's funny.
Scene where the humor doesn't work: Steven is suffering from diarrhea. He goes into this school's bathroom and takes a shit where there's dozens of kids' half mutilated bodies.
^^That's not funny.
The humor is the best part about the book. The rest of the book falls flat.
The head hopping is outrageous. We're reading tweets (why no hashtags?), then a scene from the hospital, then a blog post, then to this kid with his family in a car, then to a drunk guy on a motorcycle, then text messages from random people, then to some birds in Africa or where ever...it's overloading. If this book was written as a mock-documentary, then it would work. It doesn't work when 75% of the book is devoted to a set cast of characters and the other 25% is random.
Because so much effort is placed on being everywhere at once, there's no room to develop personalities for the characters. There's a nurse, a kid, an old man, a drunk guy with a motorcycle, and then this guy and his pregnant wife. Does there ALWAYS have to be a pregnant chick in zombie books? Plus she doesn't even do anything except be pregnant. The characters do things for plot purposes.
For example: Sarah is in her car with the kid and she's running from a crowd of zombies. This old guy is trying to get into the car. Sarah nearly lets him die to the crowd of zombies. She doesn't trust that he's not infected. But, eventually she lets him in the car. She's a nurse, but she doesn't bother to actually CHECK to see if he has any injuries. In the next scene, Sarah vouches for this old man that she just met and that she didn't trust 5 minutes ago. WTF?
And then there's times that the characters escape situations in ways that don't make sense.
For example: Steve hides under a bullet-filled corpse of a dead zombie. Steve has injuries. The zombie is leaking fluid from its injuries. Why is Steve not infected? I admit that it is a creative way to escape, but it still doesn't make any logical sense.
As I said, I would have given this book two stars for still being entertaining and somewhat humorous (and good editing), but I hated the ending. Not cool.
(I received a copy of this book in a Goodreads giveaway.)
- Reviewed in the United States on September 26, 2014Relationships between the characters seemed rather wooden and immature, especially between the romantic leads. But it to really doesn't matter does it? They are just vehicles for the same worn out story.
Predictable and cliche, without surprises, it should make for a quick and happy read for any who feast on this genre of rotting fare.
Someday we may look back with the clarity of hindsight and see what metaphor "zombies" were representative of.
Surely we have set our capacity for reason and physics aside to satiate our own subconscious cravings, as so many of us overindulge in seemingly endless scenarios with this same implausible premise.
God help us get over this!!

5.0 out of 5 stars An Almost Addictive Zombie Novel
An almost addictive read. The facebook post made this seem real, and pulled you into the story much like facebook does itself. The book follows a group of survivors as they try and escape the Zombie apocalypse. It is full of grit, gore and humor that keeps you turning the pages.
The author uses social media to pull you into the story from facebook post to twitter and blog feeds. The blog from the young boy trapped in his car is particularly compelling.
The book ends with an unexpected twist, or does it, is it just beginning?
