The Walk for Wisdom is a global educational service initiative supported by 501c3 nonprofit Mothering Across Continents. Through the Walk for Wisdom, students and school communities learn about the history of South Sudan—the world’s newest and most fragile country—and the pressing need for education and peace there.  They learn that children in many conflict countries, including South Sudan, walk 45 minutes or more to reach school and clean water. They also participate in service and fundraising projects that support education in South Sudan.  

Participation in the Walk for Wisdom is open to elementary, middle and high schools, especially those striving for IB, service and global standards recognition.  Many schools choose to host a signature 3-mile walkathon as a fundraiser, but schools can make a difference in many ways including readathons, raffles, T-shirt design contests and more!

Participating schools are challenged to raise a minimum $1,000 by May 1, 2017. Those that do are eligible for special prizes celebrating creativity, innovation, impact and generosity.

All Walk for Wisdom proceeds provide books, solar lights and access to clean water to three primary schools in Ruweng State and Jonglei State, South Sudan.

To support participating schools, we provide educational materials about the former Lost Boys of Sudan and the new nation of South Sudan that can be used in English and social studies classes, or as part of a broader school initiative.  We also provide resources and focused, virtual coaching to schools to support planning of a Walk for Wisdom service project.
