Description

The Virtual Hope Box (VHB) is a smartphone application designed for use by patients and their behavioral health providers as an accessory to treatment. The VHB contains simple tools to help patients with coping, relaxation, distraction, and positive thinking. Patients and providers can work together to personalize the VHB content on the patient's own smartphone according to the patient's specific needs. The patient can then use the VHB away from clinic, continuing to add or change content as needed.

Patients can use the VHB to store a variety of rich multimedia content that they find personally supportive in times of need. For example, a patient can include family photos, videos and recorded messages from loved ones, inspirational quotes, music they find especially soothing, reminders of previous successes, positive life experiences and future aspirations, and affirmations of their worth in their VHB. A patient can also collaborate with their provider to create coping cards to use in response to personal problem areas they experience. Finally, the VHB provides the patient with positive activity planning, distraction tools, and interactive relaxation exercises including guided imagery, controlled breathing and muscle relaxation.

SO helpful! But passcode protected.

I LOVE this app. It is so helpful. I’ve pulled it out in multiple situations. However, yesterday I was triggered so so bad. I was shaking, panicking, and disassociating. When I was able to think enough to open the app I couldn’t get it open because my brain couldn’t think enough to put in the 4 digit pin. I tried so many times that I locked myself out, of the app and my entire phone. Only today when I tried to open it again to see if I could change the pin or remove that setting I was able to read that it said the pin for my device. I really really wish I could remove this setting. I do not have anything to hide within my VirtualHopeBox and all brain function is lost when in distress, which is the point of the app, that I couldn’t use. I know it sounds so simple to be able to put in a device pin, but when needing the app the most, I can’t read or think. Could you please make it an option to disable the need for a pin.

Photo Trouble

This is such an amazing app, and I’m glad that I found this. I have Trichotillomania, so it’s proved itself to be a good way to distract myself and get my hands away from my face. I only wish that you didn’t have to keep the pictures you use for photo puzzles on your phone, because I just spent an hour and a half downloading pictures, cropping some to fit better as a puzzle, then deleting all of them to keep room on my phone. After removing all of those pictures, only two were left in the app because they were still on my phone. If the developers of this app happen to read this, could you please make it so I don’t have to keep the pictures on my device as well? It would be a lot easier that way.

So much want to give it 5 stars

I love this app and how much happiness and relief is can bring. Some bugs have been getting on my nerves though.
1) when the phone is idle, meaning when I’m watching the photo slide show or trying to do a guided meditation, my phone will go back to the lock screen and reset everything so I have to log back into the app and start over. The only way I keep a meditation going is to tap the screen when it dims, which breaks my focus.
2) the photos to focus on for the guided meditation are really small, not a good focus point.
3) my father has an older phone so he still has an issue with the passcode/Touch ID problem. I wish there was a way to put in settings which option you would prefer. He’s an older man so I don’t want him to become frustrated with the use of this great technology.
4) maybe some coping strategy sample cards, in case a person doesn’t have another person to help make them. But the samples can be edited.
5) more “distract me” activities would be great
6) Maybe the “inspire me” can be broken up into sections, like emotions or common struggles like relationships

Thank you for this app, it’s been helping me and I would like to see it continue to be improved upon for easier use.
