Tree Planting in Lawrenceville

Help make a difference by planting trees in the city of Lawrenceville! In partnership with the Lawrenceville Housing Authority, we will be planting native trees and shrubs at a newly developed apartment complex called Thompson Square. These trees will provide cleaner air, cool shade, and all around improved habitat for humans and wildlife living in the community. Activities include digging holes, mulching, watering, and cleaning up your planting area.

Ages

This project is great for all ages, and volunteers under the age of 16 must be accompanied by a parent/guardian. Tree planting can be physically challenging and youth under 16 need assistance from adults to dig the holes (you could hit roots, rocks, compacted soil, or all of these!). Young kids can participate by massaging the tree's root ball to loosen it, filling the holes back in, and mulching and watering the trees. Kids are really great at naming trees, too!

Requirements

No prior experience is necessary. Trees Atlanta will teach you what to do.

Physical activity such as bending, lifting, and kneeling is required.

Trees Atlanta will provide all necessary tools and instruction.

Liability Release

Volunteers between the ages of 16 and 17 who are not accompanied by a parent/guardian must bring a waiver signed by a parent/guardian. All other volunteers must agree to our liability waiver when registering for this project and upon signing in.

Need Court-Ordered Community Service Credit?

If you are interested in receiving court-ordered community service hours you must first fill out Trees Atlanta's Community Service Request Form on our website. We will approve or deny your application based on the nature of your offense. You are not eligible to receive court-ordered community service hours until you are approved.

Weather

Projects happen rain or shine, so please check the weather beforehand and come prepared. We will cancel projects if inclement weather such as lightning occurs and is forecasted to persist for the duration of the project. Because weather is sometimes unpredictable, the decision to cancel is typically made at the project start time. We will contact you via email if we choose to cancel in advance.

What to wear and bring with you

Long pants are recommended as you'll be kneeling on the ground. All volunteers need closed-toed shoes or boots, clothes that can get dirty, sunscreen and bug spray as needed, snacks as needed (though a meal or snack before the project is recommended), and drinking water in reusable containers. No one-time-use plastic bottles, please.
