New Building Planned for Rivermont Collegiate

Work will begin soon to build a major addition to a private school in Bettendorf. Wednesday night trustees of Rivermont Collegiate approve plans to build a new STEAM building - which stands for science, technology, engineering, art, and math.

Headmaster Max Roach says the new, three story building will have room for some classes being offered already, but also space for classrooms and labs for some new programs.

"For example, we do not have a "makers space" here on campus. So we're going to be installing state-of-the-art  laser cutters, 3-d printers, and all kinds of gadgets so kids can make whatever they can dream up. Think of it as kind of like a technological wood shop."

Ground breaking is set for November 5th, with completion of the 3.5 million dollar building by next August. It'll be located on the property where an old guest house once stood.

And as part of Rivermont Collegiate's ongoing efforts to increase enrollment, the new STEAM building will have bedrooms for up to 28 students, and 3 faculty apartments.
